Paris Saint-Germain retained their eight-point lead at the top of Ligue 1 with a confident 3-0 win at Bastia.

An obligatory Zlatan Ibrahimovic strike set Laurent Blanc's team on their way inside six minutes on Saturday before Ezequiel Lavezzi added a brace - one goal either side of half-time - to edge ever closer to a second straight league title.

        Ligue 1

        Monaco 2 Sochaux 1
        Toulouse 3 Reims 2
        Guingamp 0 Evian 1
        Nantes 2 AC Ajaccio 2
        Valenc'nes 2 Rennes 1
        Bastia 0 PSG 3

Second-placed Monaco also won as Dimitar Berbatov netted his first for the club in a 2-1 victory over struggling Sochaux.

The Bulgarian struck after six minutes and then won a penalty for James Rodriguez to convert on 54 minutes.

That proved crucial as Sochaux pulled a goal back late on, Edouard Butin scrambling in while he laid on the ground, although Jordan Ayew's petulant kick on Andrea Raggi ended any thought of a comeback as the on-loan striker saw red.

Defeat for Sochaux was made worse as relegation rivals Evian and Valenciennes both won on Saturday, to leave them eight points from saf

Cedric Cambon scored the only goal of the game as Evian moved five points clear of the drop zone with a 1-0 win over Guingamp while VA boosted their survival hopes with a 2-1 win over fellow strugglers Rennes.

After a goalless first half, Ola Toivonen gave Rennes the lead only for Mathieu Dossevi and Abdul Majeed Waris to turn the game around, the latter following up after his penalty was saved.

The win leaves Valenciennes on 25 points and still in the third relegation place, five points behind Evian and six adrift of their opponents - who had Jean-Armel Kana-Biyik sent off for conceding the penalty for the winning goal.

Sigamary Diarra struck a last-gasp equaliser as whipping boys Ajaccio denied freefalling Nantes what would have been their first victory in eight matches.

Nantes had taken just two points from a possible 21 to slump to within two spots of the drop zone, but they looked to have finally secured a win as goals from Serge Gakpe and Filip Djordjevic overturned Mehdi Mostefa's early opener for Ajaccio.

However, with victory seemingly in their grasp, the 2001 French champions were denied right at the death when Diarra slotted home two minutes into stoppage time as the match finished 2-2.

In the day's other game, Wissam Ben Yedder's superb solo goal completed a remarkable Toulouse comeback as they beat Reims 3-2.

Le Tefece trailed to two first-half penalties, from Grzegorz Krychowiak and Nicolas de Preville, as visitors Reim looked to keep themselves in touch with the European qualifying places.

But Alain Casanova's side roared back with three goals in the last 15 minutes, Serge Aurier and Eden Ben Basat drawing them level before Ben Yedder slalomed through in the 88th minute to snatch all three points.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic's first-half brace kept defending champions Paris St-Germain eight points clear of Monaco at the top of the French league.

PSG dominated the first half against fourth-placed St Etienne and deservedly led when Ibrahimovic calmly rolled in from close range.

The Sweden captain doubled the lead by delicately prodding in Edinson Cavani's cross with the outside of his boot.

St Etienne rallied after the break but could not beat PSG's Salvatore Sirigu.

The goalkeeper acrobatically stopped St Etienne substitute Melvut Erding halving the deficit midway through the second half, while Benjamin Corgnet thumped another chance into the side-netting for the visitors.

But PSG reasserted themselves and finished strongly as they stretched their unbeaten Ligue 1 run to 13 matches.

Earlier, nearest rivals Monaco had briefly cut the gap to five points with a 3-2 win at Lyon.

Former Manchester United and Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov scored one goal and set up the other two for Claudio Ranieri's side.

Lars Lagerback, the manager who gave Zlatan Ibrahimovic his Sweden debut, has hailed the Paris St Germain striker as 'unique' and says that he knew of his talents from a young age.

The 32-year-old has been in outstanding form again this season, hitting 25 Ligue 1 goals as well as finding the net 10 times in seven Champions League games as his side prepare to take on Chelsea in the quarter-finals of the competition.

Ibrahimovic, who is one goal away from equalling Sweden's goalscoring record, was given his first chance on the international stage by Lagerback as a 19-year-old playing at Ajax.

Lagerback is now in charge of the Iceland national team, but he praised Ibrahimovic for living up to the potential he showed as a youngster.

                                Player Profile

                                10. Zlatan Ibrahimovic

                                Appearances 44
                                Goals 42
                                Assists 13
                                Yellows 7
                                Reds 0

"Of course, you could see that he was a big talent," Lagerback told Sky Sports News Radio.

"I saw him in his club too and I knew his coach very, very well. We followed him for a few years before we picked him in the national teams.

"He was very, very promising. You never know what he would be in the future but I thought he had big chances to become a good player anyway.

"He had a lot of self-confidence but, of course, he was a little bit quiet and didn't play so much at the beginning.

"I think all players are like that but, at the same time, when you started to get to know him, he had a lot of self-confidence and a lot of ambition. As I knew him from the beginning, he always tried to be the best, so to speak."

Lagerback also believes that Ibrahimovic differs from a number of the world's top players in that he has improved with age.

"He has a very special personality and he has high demands from himself," he said.

"I think what is a little bit unique about Zlatan is, from my experience, when good players reach around their 30s, they're not maybe developing so much.

"Of course, you always get more experience and learn to understand the game a little bit better but I think he is unique because he's getting bigger and better every season.

"That's a little bit strange, at least from my experience when you're looking at players above their 30s.

"I don't think it's going to be easy to get better than he is today. He's a fantastic player. He can do some marvellous things that no-one else can do.

"Everyone in England remembers the goal he scored in the friendly last year. He's such an athlete too, he can do some fantastic things."
