Re: Jornada 10 - primera division
Deportivo La Coruña were a shadow of their last home display, as Getafe made the most of their pace, precision and a slice or two of fortune, to take all three points at Riazor, resisting well in the final minutes after Depor pulled a goal back.
The opening exchanges of the encounter matched the cold and the rain, with little to warm up the fans at Riazor. Deportivo looked were looking to play a more controlled game, but lacked precision in their passing. Getafe however were trying to exploit pace as their main weapon and that eventually proved the most effective approach.
In the 19th minute, Getafe had the first clear opportunity. Lafita bursting superbly past a sluggish Deportivo defence, but driving his finish beyond the post. As the rain started to pour more heavily, there was a swift spell of end to end action, but neither side could earn more than corners, which they couldn’t make the most of.
Getafe remained the more confident looking side and eventually in the 35th minute, they had the lead, though it came with a lot of fortune. Yoda striking his effort well, but it cannoned off the post and unfortunately for Deportivo keeper Fabricio, off his back and over the line into the net. Two minutes later and Escudero went on a surging run forward for the visitors, nobody able to stop him, but he was wayward with his finish.
Heading towards the interval, Sarabria struck powerfully, but that whizzed just wide of the mark, before Deportivo had their best chance in the final moments of the half. Good work from Fariña, who sent the ball for Cavaleiro to strike well, but only into the side netting. Whistles from the home fans as the player headed down the tunnel.
Clearly unhappy with the sluggish display from his side, Víctor Fernández made a double substitution, as Canella and Postiga replaced Wilk and Fariña. No sooner had play resumed in the second half though, more dispair for Deportivo as Getafe quickly scored a second goal. A great run and final ball from Hinestroza, who slipped the ball beyond a beaten Fabricio, for Lafita to apply the easiest of finishing touches.
Picking themselves up from that blow, Deportivo duly tried to respond, with a good cross meeting a powerful header from Postiga causing Guaita problems, but the Getafe keeper managed to get a grip on the ball at the second attempt.
Getafe seemed prepared to take a more patient approach with their two-goal cushion, willing Deportivo to attack, whilst looking for the bursts forward of Yoda, Sarabia and Hinestroza, who were all proving dangerous with their velocity.
Just before the hour, Deportivo made their third change, with Toché replacing Cuenca and the fans whistling their discontent. Though the home side continued to push forward, they weren’t really creating any real problems for Getafe. The visitors however were and Lafita missed two glorious chances in the 68th minute. The first strike scraping the post, the second after a lovely ball from Sarabia, but over the crossbar.
Getafe made their first change in the 69th minute, Diego Castro replacing Hinestrosa and still they looked closer to scoring a third. Deportivo keeper Fabricio with a good save to deny Sarabia in the 73rd minute. Just after the a brief but fruitless half-chance for the home side, Contra made his second substitution, with Sammir on for Sarabia and the game looking comfortable.
Suddenly though and in the 80th minute, Deportivo found themselves a lifeline. Cavaleiro on to Toché and he set up the final ball for Postiga, who didn’t waste the opportunity to drill in the finish. Something to animate the home fans at last, as their side tried to mount more pressure.
By the 88th minute, Getafe were holding firm though and as slowly as possible, made their third change, much to the discontent of the home fans with their eyes on the clock, as Míchel replaced Lafita. Deep into injury time and desperate measures from free-kicks, with keeper Fabricio joining in with the attacks, but ultimately, unable to make a difference by the time the whistle blew.

Re: Jornada 10 - primera division
Real Madrid set the tone after Cristiano scored within two minutes at Nuevo Los Cármenes. From there it was the quality that made the difference. Whilst Granada battled, they didn’t have the precision, as the visitors put them to the sword with three more goals.
Real Madrid didn’t take long to open their account at Nuevo Los Cármenes. A mistake at the back from the home side gifted the ball to Benzema, he slipped it to Cristiano Ronaldo, who fired his side ahead in the 2nd minute of play with a low drive beyond the reach of Roberto.
Granada had to withstand more pressure from their visitors, but eventually began to probe forward themselves, but the Real Madrid rear-guard seemed to have little difficulty containing the threats the home side offered. Meanwhile, James had two quick chances in the 17th minute, the first over the bar and the second saved comfortably.
Lovely skill from Isco opened up a swift attack from Real Madrid in the 25th minute. James collected the ball, slipped it through for Cristiano to backheel into space, where Carvajal was running and a whisker over the crossbar with his finish.
On the half hour and after Granada had tried to find the bursts of Córdoba and Success, they were soon defending again. 30th minute, the ball dropped inside the area for James and he unleashed a perfect first-time volley, his shot dipping over Roberto and into the back of the net. A lovely strike from the Colombian.
At the other end, his fellow countryman Córdoba broke clean through in the 33rd minute and really should have pulled a goal back, but was slow in the execution and only ended up winning a corner. Another chance moments later, with Success powering forward and sending an inviting ball for Córdoba, a fraction from the connection.
Forced substitution for Real Madrid in the 38th minute, with Carvajal apparently suffering discomfort. Arbeloa his replacement from the bench. Granada remained insistent when they had the ball at their feet. Inside the 40th minute, a lovely ball across the pitch from Eddy found Nyom, but his cross was dealt with comfortably by the Real Madrid defence. Final moments of the half, still Granada looked for a way back through Juan Carlos, but unable to breach the visiting defence.
Caparrós made a midfield switch at the interval, with Márquez on for Eddy and Granada made a bright start, as Córdoba managed to crack off a shot, but was denied by Casillas. Another change followed for Granada in the 50th minute. Success took a blow and couldn’t continue, so El Arabi was his replacement from the bench.
The first clear attack from Real Madrid of the second-half, also brought their third goal. Cristiano trapping the ball well and without looking, backheeled it through to Benzema to apply the finish in the 53rd minute. The visitors were coasting now. Moments later, Marcelo almost had the fourth, striking powerfully and well, but his effort clipping the crossbar as it headed over.
Following a spell of Real Madrid dominance, Granada made their third and final chance, as Rochina replaced Córdoba in the 65th minute. Rochina should have scored for Granada after receiving a cross from Juan Carlos, but with Casillas beaten, he was blocked by the Real Madrid defence as he struck.
Granada continued to pressure well for a spell, but still couldn’t find a breakthrough, as Real Madrid made their second change in the 75th minute, Khedira on for Modric.
After Sissoko almost scored for Granada, Arbeloa had a great chance for a fourth Real Madrid goal in the 82nd minute, but was denied by the outstretched leg of Roberto. The visitors then made their final change, with Illarramendi replacing Isco.
In the 86th minute Real Madrid had the fourth. Arbeloa bursting into the area from the right, Granada couldn’t scramble the ball clear and James was there to grab his second of the game. Granada still tried to find at least one goal for themselves in the final moments and El Arabi threatened. A free-kick from Rochina the last chance of a consolation for Granada, but punched clear by Casillas.

Re: Jornada 10 - primera division
Real Sociedad could muster little to seriously threaten Málaga, as anxiety got the better of the struggling home side and they struggled to create chances at Anoeta. Sensing the nerves, Málaga stepped forward a little more and were rewarded with a goal, midway through the second half. La Real could conjure little in response, with another defeat leaving the tether of Arrasate’s position as manager, at breaking point.
Little rhythm to the start of the encounter at Anoeta, with lots of stoppages for minor fouls in the opening period of the game. Despite the tension and pressure for Real Sociedad to get a positive result, they seemed nervous and Málaga keen to exploit that, as they showed the most promise going forward.
Málaga defender Weligton a key protagonist at both ends, within the 23rd minute. First he headed clear the first clear chance that Real Sociedad could muster from a free-kick, then he was launching himself at a corner for his team, powerfully connecting with the header, but over the bar.
Whilst the visitors were always looking the more dangerous going forward, there were few clear chances on goal, whilst Real Sociedad were also defending solidly enough, then had the best of chances to take the lead in the 33rd minute. Carlos Vela forced a corner, from which Zurutuza lost his marker and headed well, but his effort clipped the top of the crossbar and whizzed over.
The half finished as it had started, with few chances, lots of fouls and plenty of stoppages, with referee Latre taking names in his book as a result. Little to encourage the frustrated home fans, who whistled their team off the pitch to show their discontentment.
Málaga started the second half with a more attacking look to their game plan. Numerous dangerous moves originating down their right flank, gave Real Sociedad left-back Yury plenty of work to do. The visitors inevitably had the next chance to score, with Amrabat finding space on the right and sending a good pass through towards Castillejo, but just as he was set to make the connection, Zaldua was there to make a crucial intervention.
Sergio Sánchez suffered a muscle injury and in the 52nd minute, Málaga had to make an unplanned change, sending on Miguel Torres as his replacement.
Weligton caught Carlos Vela with an elbow in the 56th minute, collecting a yellow card and it could have been more, amidst the cries from the home fans, who were looking for something, anything to go in their favour. Incredibly, the reverse happened moments later as Carlos Vela elbowed Weligton, but no card was forthcoming, much to the fury of the Málaga bench. That culminated in referee Latre dismissing one of their coaching staff from the dugout.
Real Sociedad managed to forge their best opening of the half so far, when Hervías found space on the right, but as he whipped in the cross, which caught the Málaga defence sleeping, there was also nobody from his team there either, to make the most of the opportunity. Antunes was the next casualty for Málaga and another forced change for them, as they replaced the Portuguese full-back with Duda.
After the home side had their next chance, Hervías once more their most dangerous outlet, Real Sociedad made their first change in the 67th minute, as Agirretxe replaced Pardo and Arrasate shuffled the formation around. Málaga made their third and final substitution a moment later, as Recio replaced Samuel.
Real Sociedad threatened tamely once more and couldn’t make the most of a corner, which Kameni claimed with little difficulty. After the home side continued to pressure weakly, a lost ball allowed Málaga to break forward on the counter, applying the punishment and taking the lead in the 72nd minute. Amrabat bursting down the right, Yuri unable to keep up and the cross was weighted to perfection, with Juanmi there to apply the finish.
Arrasate must have felt the noose tightening around his neck, as he made his second change and sent on Granero for Yuri, who had struggled all night. Real Sociedad set about looking for a way back, as Ansotegi saw a headed effort sail over the crossbar, but the pressure kept coming, whilst Málaga seemed content to hold tight and soak it up.
Into the final five minutes and what was surely now his last throw of the dice, Arrasate sent on Finnbogason for Canales, everything focused on attacking and desperately trying to salvage something from the game and perhaps, also his managerial position. Málaga came closest to scoring another though, as Darder whizzed a shot just beyond the post in the last minute of normal time, before the fourth official displayed five minutes longer for stoppages.
It really should have been two for Málaga in the third of those injury time minutes, as Amrabat again opened up the Real Sociedad defence on the right, slipping it to Darder for the finish, but his shot struck the woodwork. A mirror of their opening goal, but without the same outcome.
The final whistle was matched by those of the fans inside Anoeta and with more disappointment, Arrasate must surely be on borrowed time now at Real Sociedad. Meanwhile and more positively for Gracia and Málaga, their rich vein of form continues, as they keep climbing up the table.
