  • Amaya: Forget about the league, we can make history

Real Betis centre-back, Antonio Amaya admits that while he hasn’t given up after he was dropped from the starting line-up several weeks ago, but it fully focused on helping the team make history by winning the Europa League.

In his pre-match press conference alongside manager Gabriel Calderon, Amaya spoke about the EuroDerbi against cross-town rivals Sevilla and playing on the right side as opposed to the middle.

“I’ve not given up after losing my starting spot several weeks ago. Tomorrow we can make history for Betis and that’s why we’re going to fight.

“The lads in the dressing room know the importance of this match. Tomorrow, we need to forget about La Liga because we can make history. Nothing is decided and we have to bring joy to our fans.

“There’s never been a EuroDerbi in this city for as long as I’ve lived. I haven’t heard anything worth noting on the streets, but it’s palpable.

“The fans are another player for us and there’s never any pressure when the stadium is full, it’s a joy.”

Amaya then stated that he will move from centre-back to right-back and doesn’t know what his future will hold.

“Right-back isn’t my normal position, but I’m hungry to play and I have to make the most of this opportunity.
“I don’t know when my renewal will come, but I’m not thinking about that at all at the moment. The most important thing is the match tomorrow, for the club and for me, my first option is always Betis.”
