  • Betis post video of referee mistakes, as president complains

Real Betis president Miguel Guillén complained about the poor refereeing decisions of Gil Manzano during the defeat against Athletic Club Bilbao, whilst the club have posted a YouTube video to highlight the match official’s errors.

Miguel GuillénAfter suffering a 0-2 defeat at home against Athletic Club Bilbao on Sunday, Real Betis players and officials were furious about punishing decisions against them, by match referee Gil Manzano.

In particular, three incidents. A penalty that wasn’t awarded when Rubén Castro appeared to be fouled inside the area. A penalty awarded against them that was outside the area. A penalty that wasn’t awarded when an Athletic player appeared to handle the ball on his goal line.

On Monday, the club published the following video via YouTube, to highlight those “mistakes” by the referee.

Los errores de Gil Manzano - YouTube

As well as the video, Real Betis president Miguel Guillén also spoke with radio network Cadena Sur show ‘El Larguero’, about words he’d had with the referee after the game and his dismay at the mistakes that had gone against his team.

“I told him, politely, that we’ve all seen them. Not just the Beticos in the stadium, but the rest of Spain on television, that unfortunately the refereeing actions have been lamentable from every point of view.”

“The task of the referees is difficult, but we simply cannot understand when a team of referees can be wrong in the one direction, without using the same references to punish plays that occur on either side.”

Whilst acknowledging Betis have suffered for their own mistakes this season, Guillén also believes referees should also be scrutinised more for the mistakes they make, insisting that he will take his complaints as far as he can.

“We’re in the situation we’re in because of our own mistakes. What I don’t understand however, is that when refereeing mistakes like this happen, as well as being beaten, we’re expected to remain quiet about them.”

“I have conveyed that their actions were lamentable, if they can fail in so many actions and some of them practically the same for one team compared to the other, and they penalise one different to the other, I feel I have the right to express that, politely.”

“It shows an inability from a team of professionals to do their job correctly. I represent a very big club, with an important group of fans and I think I have to convey what we have seen.”

Referee Gil Manzano suffers a penalty of his own

Real Betis appeared to suffer greatly at the whistling, or non-whistling, for penalties and fouls during the loss against Athletic Club Bilbao, as they finished the game with nine men and had plenty to complain about.

Real Betis were furious about the actions of the match officials, during their defeat against Athletic Club Bilbao at the weekend. The Referee’s Technical Committee seem to agree that their actions were poor, with both Gil Manzano and one of his linesmen, suspended from action for at least a week.

Such was the frustration of the Andaluz club, they posted a video via their YouTube channel, of the three key errors made by the referee. These clearly showed that they should have had two penalties, but were denied, whilst the penalty that was awarded to Athletic Club Bilbao, was clearly outside the area when the foul was committed. Real Betis also finished the encounter with nine men, after what appeared to be harsh double-bookings, particularly in the case of Lolo Reyes, who also protested the unfairness of his second yellow.

As a result of those complaints, plus obviously having reviewed the video evidence themselves and in agreement, the RFEF Referee’s Technical Committee have decided to temporarily suspend referee Gil Manzano, along with linesman (or assistant referee if you prefer the modern term) Ángel Nevado Rodríguez, for the next game they were scheduled to officiate.

Betis shows their complaints to Thebes after the game, in the same Madrigal

Heated discussion between Vice President Betis Gómez Falcón, and the president of the LFP, present on the stage

President Betis , Miguel Guillen, has not even been present at the stage of Madrigal for personal reasons. As a high representation set Betis, traveled Vice President Pablo Gómez Falcón , who, after the meeting, the president of the Professional Football League, Javier went Thebes (which also went to the box for abetting the controversial homage to the yellow hobby that he allowed) and had a long talk with him for ten minutes which he openly expressed his complaints about the regrettable arbitration Iglesias Villanueva in the clash on Sunday and, above all, by the farce consented by the LFP unilaterally changing the schedule of the match with the obvious damage to the club Betis. The talk between Gómez Falcón and Thebes has not been far from a raft of oil, rather pretty heated . Betis no longer stand the "belittling" and it has been made known to man in person should ensure the good of all the clubs in the LFP.
