Faus: Let no fan suffer, Messi will retire at Barcelona
Barcelona’s economic vice-president, Javier Faus recently addressed the rumours that both manager Tata Martino and Leo Messi were on their way out of the Camp Nou this summer, insisting that the Argentinean duo will not be leaving and will fulfill their contracts and maybe more.
In an interview with TV3, Faus first addressed the reports that Martino has informed the board and president that he will be leaving the club this summer, something the vice-president adamantly denied.
“The club has spoken to him and he’s told us that he hasn’t spoken with anyone. To me, he looks eager and we would like him to continue. The people who have everyday dealing with him feel that he’s very invested.”
Faus then went on to calm the fears of all the “suffering” Barcelona fans, admitting that they have been speaking with Jorge Messi, in hopes of keeping Leo at the club until he decides to hang up the boots.
“We’re in constant contact with Jorge Messi. The conversations are directly carried out by president Bartomeu with the player’s father. We don’t want the fans to suffer, we are all convinced that he will retire in a Barca shirt.”
Faus concluded by discussing the controversial transfer of Neymar, which lead to the eventual resignation of former president Sandro Rosell.
“We would do everything the same [with the Neymar transfer]. We used all the weapons at our disposal to make that signing. He’s a player that everyone wants and we’d do whatever we could to sign him all over again.
“Rosell will go down in history as a great president.”
