Pedro León hasn’t featured for Getafe since May, after having his registration request denied by the LFP – but the frozen-out midfielder is set to be allowed return to action in December’s Copa Del Rey 4th round tie.

The Getafe midfielder is currently not allowed to play in La Liga, following the LFP’s decision to block his registration amid fears that the club would exceed their salary cap for the current season. However, the organisation does not have any jurisdiction over the Copa Del Rey – which will allegedly allow the 27-year-old to appear in Cosmin Contra’s lineup for the first time this season.

It has also been confirmed by the FEF (Spanish Football Federation) that León has the necessary licenses to be able to feature in any cup competition this season. The rules of the Copa Del Rey do not require that a squad is submitted ahead of the competition, thus allowing new players to be brought into the fold, before and during.

If León was to feature in a La Liga encounter, Getafe have been told by the LFP that the subsequent game would result in a 3-0 loss for the club and a deduction of three points. However, in the cup, such a threat doesn’t apply and Cosmin Contra will be well within his rights to include him.

Segunda B side UE Cornellá will submit a formal request to the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) to allow their home Copa del Rey tie against Real Madrid to be played at Espanyol’s Power8 Stadium on 29 October.

UE Cornellá drew the defending champions Real Madrid in Friday’s highly-anticipated Copa del Rey draw.

According to Spanish sports daily AS, UE Cornellá, realising their Nuevo Municipal will be unable to accommodate a match of this magnitude, will formally request to play their leg of the knockout tie at the neighbouring Power8 Stadium, which is just 10 metres away.

The availability of the stadium is not in question as the tie is played before the others due to Real Madrid’s commitments to the Club World Cup in Morocco pushing up the schedule.

Espanyol, who are expected to welcome their neighbours to play in the new facility, will play their home Copa del Rey tie against Segunda B side Alaves on 16 December.
