The bad start to Zinedine Zidane’s tenure as Real Madrid Castilla boss might be about to get a whole lot worse – as he now could be banned for six months if he’s found guilty of coaching without the proper qualifications required to do so.

CENAFE (Spain’s national coaching association) filed a complaint about the Frenchman at the start of the season, which is now being studied by the country’s competition committee. There is said to be a real possibility that the club have broken ‘rule 104′ of their code, which if found guilty, will lead to a ban of between four and sixteen games, or one to six months.

Real Madrid Castilla are now claiming that Zidane has been working only as a number two, with Sergio Sánchez occupying the role of team manager. However, those accusing the Frenchman of wrongdoing are said to have plenty of evidence that Zidane has indeed been working in the hotseat. The president of CENAFE Miguel Galán, the body that made the original complaint, has issued an official statement about the current situation at the club.

“Real Madrid is one of the most recognisable sporting institutions in the world and a symbol of this sport but they have to follow the same rules as everyone else otherwise the competition is not fair.”

Managers at this level are required to have a Level 3 National Coaching Diploma, but Zidane is yet to acquire that particular qualification. It’s been a torrid affair for the club so far this campaign – along with these new allegations, Real Madrid Castilla currently sit in the relegation zone in Segunda B, after losing three of their first four games following relegation from Spain’s second tier last season.

Real Zaragoza are under serious threat of collapse, if an immediate tax repayment order by the Spanish Tax Office isn’t met or a new payment schedule cannot be agreed, for a sum that now exceeds €25 million.

The existence of Real Zaragoza faces arguably its greatest threat, Heraldo.es of Aragon has reported on Wednesday morning. The historic Spanish club has been issued with an enforced recovery order from the Tax Offic (Agencia Tributaria) amounting to €18.5 million of tax debts, which now includes an additional surcharge amount of €3.7 million, plus a further €3.7 million in interest. This totals a sum of €25.7 million which the club is ordered to pay with immediate effect.

New owners of the club, Fundación Zaragoza 2032, who successfully managed to remove controversial former owner Agapito Iglesias from his involvement with the club in July, are understandably alarmed by the demands from the Tax Office. Indeed, there are serious concerns that the club could now face closure, given that it is impossible to cover the amount required in one payment.

The only solution for Real Zaragoza, according to sources consulted at the club by Heraldo.es, is to reach some form of structured repayment plan, which they’re keen to stress has been afforded to other clubs in the past, such as Deportivo La Coruña, Osasuna, Real Sociedad, Real Valladolid, Málaga, Real Betis and Espanyol, as certain examples.

It was also explained that Fundación Zaragoza 2032 and the club aren’t seeking any preferential or privileged treatment for their case, following a series of meetings to resolve the matter, which took place in Madrid at the highest levels with the Tax Offica, last week.
Real Zaragoza has made proposals of a repayment structure, based on realistic current circumstances and incomes, which would see them make repayments of €1 million per season whilst they remain in the Segunda, with that increasing to €3 million per season, should they achieve promotion to the Primera, given there would be substantially increased revenue streams, such as additional television rights of around €25 million per season.

Fundación Zaragoza 2032 have thus far signalled their intentions and commitment to service all debts to the Tax Office and all creditors alike, which they inherited from the previous regime at the club. However, if the Tax Office rejects the proposals, the future of Real Zaragoza almost certainly looks destined to see the club head into liquidation.

The current board of directors and their legal council are now seeking to halt this demand from the Tax Office, as a matter of urgency, but the future remains very bleak and uncertain, unless a repayment agreement and schedule can be successfully brokered.

“The possibility of Real Zaragoza disappearing is certain and very real.” Explained club president Christian Lapetra, at a press call on Thursday, accompanied by fellow directors.

“If this demand isn’t lifted, Real Zaragoza will not be able to cover its payroll or any other payments commitments. The Agencia Tributaria has refused to lift embargoes placed on some of our income. We could cover the sum over a maximum of eight years, but we cannot pay the Agencia Tributaria what is demanded, if they don’t offer us a payment schedule.”

Not all hope is lost however, if Fundación Zaragoza 2032 can convince the Tax Office they have a viable recovery plan to make repayments, thus entering into an agreement that has worked with other clubs. That is the key and what they believe is the fairest solution going forward from what is now a critical point.

Germán Lux has claimed the Liga Adelante Best Goalkeeper award at the LFP Awards for the 2013-14 season in La Segunda.

For his stellar saves and consistent performances with Deportivo La Coruña, during the 2013-14 season, Germán Lux has been proclaimed the Liga Adelante Best Goalkeeper at the LFP Awards ceremony.

Deportivo’s Germán Lux started 37 of the clubs 42 league games last season – one in which they clinched an automatic promotion spot. The Argentinean was pivotal in ensuring that they ended the campaign with the league’s second best defence (just 36 goals allowed).

                        Runner’s Up

Jordi Masip was a near ever-present for Barcelona B last season, playing a vital role in ensuring that the team achieved a third-place position in the Segunda last season. His form also earned him a promotion to Luis Enrique’s first team in the summer.

Xabi Irureta was the goalkeeper who staked the claim of marshaling the league’s best defence, as Eibar conceded a mere 28 goals in 42 games – form which would see them make their first ever appearance in the Primera this season, after winning the league title outright.

Speaking at last night’s LFP awards, Rayo Vallecano manager Paco Jémez was once again asked about his opinion on Zinedine Zidane, after the news broke that the Real Madrid Castilla coach had been banned for three months.

Jémez had previously taken a strong stance on the fact that Zidane had been coaching Real Madrid Castilla without the necessary licenses, claiming that the Frenchman shouldn’t be allowed to coach in Spain.

“It’s not easy for me to talk about this. I think this coach has been spoken too much. Zidane is doing the necessary course in France and it takes two years. In other countries, it’s possible to work while doing the course. In my case, I started to train without doing a course.”

The Rayo manager went on to say that despite his beliefs, he would not have sanctioned Zidane for his actions, although the fact remains he cannot work in Spain without the qualifications.

“If it was up to me, I would not have sanctioned Zidane. I would have given him more time to be able to acquire the necessary qualifications first.

“He knew what this was going to come to. Does Zidane have the necessary qualifications to coach? Because if he doesn’t, then he can’t work in Spain. I think it’s pretty clear. I don’t want to speak about this subject anymore.”

The agent of Real Mallorca star Marco Asensio, Horacio Gaggioli, has admitted that he can’t see his player staying in Palma for much longer, claiming it will be “difficult” for the 18-year-old to remain at the club.

“Honestly, I can’t see him being here for much longer. We’re all in agreement that we’ve got an outstanding footballer on our hands here and that means there are many potential buyers because of that. It will be difficult for him to remain in Palma.”

Real Mallorca President Biel Cerdà has recently accused Gaggioli of opposing the player’s contract, but the agent has rubbished those claims and even hinted that Asensio shows more professionalism than some of the club’s board members.

“It’s absolutely false. Marco shows incredible professionalism, something that is lacking in certain ranks of the club. Everybody should be working to the same tune and not thinking about outside entities like Porto or Olympiakos.

“Although it’s true that his contract doesn’t fit and that might be something that sees him leave the club. Why not? He could well do that but it’s not something that’s in his thoughts or mine at this stage. The idea is for him to eventually go as he entered, through the front door.”

Zinedine Zidane will continue coaching Real Madrid Castilla until his appeal against a three-month ban is heard.

The Frenchman and fellow reserve team coach, Santiago Sanchez, were handed the sanction by the Competition Committee for not having the required license to coach in the Segunda Division B.

Level 3 qualifications are needed to coach in the Segunda B, but Zidane is believed to only have a UEFA A license, which is the equivalent of Level 2 qualifications in Spain.

Real Madrid say Zidane was awarded the necessary licence by the French football federation but for now a Spanish court has suspended the World Cup winners’ ban.

A short statement on Los Blancos’ official website reads: “Real Madrid C. F. communicates that the Administrative Court for Sport (TAD) has granted the precautionary suspension requested by the club, allowing the manager and assistant manager of Real Madrid Castilla, Santiago Sánchez and Zinedine Zidane respectively, to carry out their professional activity as soon as the Real Madrid’s appeal against the decision from the Appeals Committee is resolved.”

Jonathan Viera is back home at Las Palmas on a six-month loan from Standard Liege, but he stressed that he has no intention of going back to Belgium and is determined to help his boyhood club earn promotion to the Primera and stay there.

Viera touched down in Las Palmas on Monday and was keen to get to work next Monday, when the team regroups following the Christmas break.

“I’m very excited to come back and play with a young, good team. I’m very excited.

“I had offers from the Primera, but my objective was to triumph again here and I hope I can stay here.

“I tried to come back last year, but Valencia wouldn’t let me go out on loan to a Segunda side, but ever since I got to Liege, I knew I wanted to come back to Las Palmas.”

Viera went on to add that he hope to “learn a lot” from “the legend” Juan Carlo Valeron, who plays in the same position.

The 25-year-old will wear the number 20 and has already passed the necessary medical exams ahead of Monday’s training.
