25-year-old attacking midfielder Míchel Herrero could be leaving Valencia, after reports that Getafe are interested in a season-long loan deal.

Given the reinforcements that Valencia are making this summer, a regular first-team role may be even more difficult this coming season, after making just 6 starts in La Liga during the last campaign.

There may be an avenue to more prominence and starts elsewhere however, with Spanish radio network Cadena COPE suggesting that Getafe have made an approach for the 25-year-old.

Getafe are keen to strengthen their midfield options and Míchel appears to be their primary target, having proposed a season-long loan deal from Valencia. Whether there is any option to buy clause as part of the negotiations, has yet to be revealed.

Barcelona midfielder, Xavi Hernandez has reportedly agreed to join MLS’s newest franchise, New York City on a three-year deal.

Following months of uncertainty over the Spanish international’s future, the iconic player has, in the end, decided to make his way to America and become the third Designated Player for the Manchester City-owned club.

In a report from Spanish sports daily, Sport, Barcelona and Xavi’s agent are working hard to finalise the move before the player is scheduled to rejoin the club on Thursday, following a disappointing 2014 World Cup.

Barcelona and Xavi both want to finalise matters before Thursday and the only remaining details are the transfer fee and scheduling a proper testimonial for the winningest player in the club’s history.

Barcelona have tip-toed around the subject while Xavi has enjoyed his holiday, but are in agreement that after all the 34-year-old has given to the club, he has earned the right to decide his future and Barcelona are happy to acquiesce to his request.

The report goes on that Xavi has spoken to his former teammate and current manager, Luis Enrique and informed ‘Lucho’ of his decision.

Xavi and Barcelona are expected to issue a statement in the coming days, possibly as soon as Monday, announcing his move to New York.

Atlético Madrid are reportedly negotiating with Chelsea for a cut-rate deal to bring back their heralded youth product, Fernando Torres back to the Vicente Calderon for a fee of €16 million.

According to the Spanish version of Eurosport, Atletico Madrid CEO Miguel Ángel Gil has been in London negotiating a deal to bring Torres back to the club, seven years after he left for Liverpool.

Following the arrival on Diego Costa and the likelihood that Romelu Lukaku, who was a target for Atleti, will likely remain at the club, the La Liga champions have decided that now is the perfect time to bring Torres back.

Three years on from his rec0rd-breaking £50 million move to Chelsea, Torres has failed to see the same success he had at Liverpool and Atleti are hoping to lower the price to a reasonable €16 million.

Gil returned to Spain on Sunday, having not finalised the deal, but will continue to negotiate the transfer, which will not included Brazilian centre-back, Joao Miranda, who has been a target for Chelsea in recent days.

Real Madrid have reportedly reached a €80 million agreement with AS Monaco on the transfer of Colombian international attacking midfielder, James Rodríguez.

According to Spanish sports daily, AS, Real Madrid and AS Monaco have been negotiating for over a week and have finally reached an agreement with Los Blancos intending to announce the 22-year-old as the newest member of the squad sometime this week.

All that remains are the final details and if a player will be added to the deal as Diego Lopez refuses to leave despite Monaco’s lucrative offer.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez will not join the team as they head to Los Angeles tomorrow, to begin their pre-season tour of the US, and will remain in the Spanish capital with sporting director Jose Angel Sanchez to finalised the deal.

James was seen at Madrid’s Barajas airport on Sunday afternoon from Medellin (Colombia) and caused a commotion on the plane so that by the time they landed in Madrid, there was a crowd waiting for the 22-year-old and his wife, as many thought this to be his final stop ahead of completing his move to Real Madrid.

However, it was just a stop, as James, who stopped to take pictures, headed off to catch his flight to Nice, France, where he will make then 20km trip to Monaco.

Monaco has requested that James travel to Miami on Monday morning, whereas James is expected to sit down with AS Monaco’s front office and finalise his move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

The report goes on to add that Real Madrid have made all the necessary preparations for James’ arrival and will be given Mesut Özil’s old number 10, before joining the squad on 1st August, when Frenchmen Karim Benzema and Raphael Varane are expected to return from holiday.

Atletico Madrid transfer target Romelu Lukaku is set to reject approaches from the Spanish champions and Everton in order to fight for a first team place at Chelsea next season, according to Sky Sports.

With the sales of Diego Costa and David Villa, the Rojiblancos are attempting to strengthen their attack and have already signed Croat Mario Mandzukic.

However, Diego Simeone is on the lookout for another goalscorer and Lukaku has been identified as one of the successors to Diego Costa, who found the net 36 times last season as Atleti secured their first league title since 1996.

But according to Sky sources, Lukaku will return to Stamford Bridge for pre-season training after his post-World Cup holiday and will try to impress manager Jose Mourinho.

Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid have already targeted another Chelsea striker, as they are negotiating with the English side to bring back Fernando Torres.

Several clubs are lining up in hopes of signing Real Sociedad’s Antoine Griezmann, with Monaco and Tottenham willing to bid €20 million for his services, however, La Real do not plan on selling unless his €32 million buy-out clause is met.

Antoine Griezmann has been targeted by European clubs for quite some time now, and his exploits with France at the 2014 World Cup has only made teams more interesting in bidding for his services.

According to Spanish daily paper Marca, two clubs have already informed Real Sociedad that they are ready to discuss the transfer of Griezmann – those being Monaco of France and Tottenham of England.

Marca has reported that both Monaco and Tottenham have informed Real Sociedad that they are willing to offer €20 million for Griezmann, however, it will not be enough as the Basque side refuses to negotiate and continues to point interested parties to the 23-year-old’s buy-out clause of €32 million.

Griezmann recently rejected a contract extension with Real Sociedad, leading many to believe that he is looking to leave the club in the near future, though if Monaco or Tottenham do want to sign him this summer, they will have to match his buy-out clause.

Chelsea look set to further raid La Liga champions, Atletico Madrid, with new reports claiming that they have made an opening bid of €25 million in hopes of bringing Miranda to Stamford Bridge.

Having already landed Atletico Madrid stars Diego Costa and Filipe Luis, English giants Chelsea are prepared to raid the Vicente Calderon again with they sights turning to Brazilian center-back Miranda.

According to reports from the Daily Star, and Spanish daily paper AS, Chelsea have made a opening bid for Miranda, believed to be €25 million as they hope to land the center-back this summer.

However, it was also reported that Atletico Madrid immediately rejected the offer, having no interest in losing yet another key player for the La Liga winning campaign last season.

Manager Diego Simeone is said to value Miranda very highly and is not willing to part with his 29-year-old star, and thus Chelsea have been pointed to the players €30 million buy-out clause if they wish to continue their pursuit of Miranda.

It is said that Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho gained a lot of favor for Miranda from his time coaching in Spain, and is hoping that a move for the 29-year-old can happen, however, to this point sources in England suggest that Chelsea may not be willing to match the defender’s clause.

20-year-old Andrés Robles has been snapped up on a season-long loan from Santiago Wanderers, with the young Chilean prospect keen to impress and earn a permanent move.

Chilean side Santiago Wanderers have confirmed that Andrés Robles, who can operate as a central defender or midfielder, has joined Atlético Madrid.

Wanderers manager Emiliano Astorga admitted over the weekend, “I’ve been working through pre-season without considering Andrés Robles, because I knew he was leaving.”

The 20-year-old arrives in Madrid on Monday, to begin a season-long loan deal with Atlético and will be hoping to earn himself a permanent deal. He will principally join the B team.

Robles is regarded as one of the most promising young defensive players in South America. The move by Atlético was swift, given their awareness that numerous clubs throughout Europe had the same intentions.

Since making his debut for Santiago Wanderers in the Chilean Primera, Robles has gone on to make 58 league appearances. Along with being considered a key player in the Chile U20 side, he’s also been called up to the full national team and although he only played the final moments, he made his international début against Brazil in April 2013.

Atlético have been actively strengthening their B team during the summer, with several signings, keen to secure promising players who can push for first-team opportunities.

Villarreal are looking to further strengthen their squad for the future and recent reports suggest they are preparing to bid for River Plate star Manuel Lanzini.

After securing Europa League play in just their first season back in the Primera, Villarreal have been working hard to strengthen their squad ahead of the new campaign.

Though a few players have already made the move to Villarreal, the Yellow Submarine is not done yet, as recent reports suggest the club is still hard at work looking to secure a few more talented footballers this summer.

According to Spanish daily paper Marca, Villarreal have recently turned their sights to Argentina where they have zeroed in on River Plate playmaker Manuel Lanzini.

Lanzini, 21, has caught of the eye of several clubs across Europe with the likes of Tottenham, Lazio, and Besiktas are all heavily interested in his services, though he still remains a River Plate player.

Reports in Turkey state that Besiktas recently saw their €7 million bid for Lanzini rejected, meaning Villarreal will have to offer something much higher if they do plan on making a move for the Argentine midfielder.

Marca goes on to state that Villarreal may not be ready to purchase the playmaker this summer, but may resole to further scouting him and returning next year with the goal of bringing him to Spain.

Portuguese international defender, Ricardo Costa has signed the documentation required to allow Valencia to rescind and terminate his contract, allowing the veteran centre-back to leave the club on a free transfer.

According to several media sources, Costa does not enter into the future plans of manager Nuno Espirito Santo and has decided to end his spell at Mestalla.

The 33-year-old is the highest paid played on the squad and the club has decided to allow him to leave on a free transfer due to the fact that the salary he was owed would be likely the same amount they would get in a transfer fee.

Costa, despite wearing the captain’s armband last year was never fully embraced by the fans throughout his four years at the club and the arrival of Argentine defender, Nicolas Otamendi was what sealed the deal for Costa, who would have likely been released as a free agent next summer.

Barcelona manager, Luis Enrique will reportedly raise their opening €15 million bid to Valencia’s €20 million asking price in order to secure the services of French centre-back, Jeremy Mathieu.

According to Spanish sports daily, AS, Barcelona have finally agreed to pay Valencia’s asking price, as club president Amadeo Salvo has refused to accept Barca’s €15 million offer, despite the 30-year-old’s public plea last week.

Mathieu, following his public transfer request, then refused to play in this weekend’s friendly in Germany and stated that he would continue to do so as he doesn’t want to risk injury ahead of a possible trasfer “to the biggest club in the world.”

The signing of Mathieu will secure a position the club has been attempting to fulfill for the past two seasons, providing height and skill to the centre-back position.

Valencia and Barcelona are working to finalise the deal before Los Che leave for their South American pre-season tour on Friday.

New Levante manager Jose Luis Mendilibar says he is unsure as to where the future of in-demand goalkeeper Keylor Navas lies but added he expects the Costa Rican back at the club soon.

The shot-stopper has had an excellent year for club and country, helping the Valencian outfit to a tenth-place finish in La Liga last season and starred at the World Cup, conceding just two goals as Los Ticos reached the quarter-finals.

The 27-year-old has been linked with a number of clubs including Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, and the player’s agent stated earlier this month that Atletico Madrid and Porto have submitted bids to Levante.

However, Mendilibar told Marca, via Sky Sports, he knows nothing beyond the speculation,

“Nobody has told me anything about Keylor. He’s still ours. I don’t know him personally, but they tell me he’s a great professional. The teams that you’re hearing about, Bayern, Madrid…they are the best in the world. It’s close to the date for his return and I only hope that things are resolved before then.”

Napoli’s Jose Callejon has revealed Atletico Madrid made an unsuccessful bid for him and added he wants to stay in Italy.

The 27-year-old, who experienced two spells at Real Madrid, says he almost returned to the Spanish capital but the move was blocked by the Serie A outfit, who are keen to hold on to the winger following a 20-goal début season in 2013/14.

Premier League side Chelsea have also expressed an interest in the Spaniard but despite being aware of the speculation and bids, Callejon claims he is in no rush to leave Naples. He told Gazzetta dello Sport, via Sky Sports,

“My agent told me about it (Atletico bid). Napoli declared me not for sale. That pleased me because I’m happy in this jersey and have another four years on my contract. I feel good here. With (Rafa) Benitez I have freedom and I don’t want to give that up.

The former Espanyol forward also told E’Azzurro, via Sky Sports, that he knows of the interest from his ex-Los Blancos boss Jose Mourinho, but once again declared his intention to remain at the Stadio San Paolo,

“I have heard lots of talk about me. I know that (Jose) Mourinho is interested. Last year I made a choice and I don’t regret it. I am happy in this team and in this city and I will be staying at Napoli.”

Argentine side River Plate are set to lose Teófilo Gutiérrez, having reportedly failed to make scheduled payments to the third-party company that own his rights. Deportivo La Coruña have expressed their interest, but face stiff competition from English Premier League side, Southampton.

Teófilo Gutiérrez was thrust into the spotlight at the World Cup for Colombia, playing four of their five matches at the tournament, given the absence of Radamel Falcao and the fitness problems of Carlos Bacca. He scored in the opening group match against Greece and set up one of the goals in the victory against the Ivory Coast.

His profile having gained a boost, the player has reportedly told River Plate that he’s not returning, following his extended period of leave, following the World Cup. Part of the reason for this is apparently due to Argentine club failing to make agreed payments to his third party rights owners. They are now pressuring to have his contract rescinded, freeing him to move elsewhere.

The 29-year-old has spent time with eight different clubs during his career and thus far, his only spell in Europe was during the 2010-2011 season, with Turkish side Trabzonspor. He’s keen to make a return however and last week, reports in the Argentine and Colombian media linked Teó with a move to English Premier League side, Southampton.

Now however and according to La Voz de Galicia, Deportivo La Coruña have initiated contact with the representatives of Teó, to express their interest. Although it’s thought Barcelona striker Bojan Krkic is their first-choice option, there is still no definitive response in that direction or any indication they’ll get their man. As such, they have now turned their attention to the Colombian striker.
