re: Mercado de Fichajes
After weeks of back and forth negotiations, Douglas Pereira has at last, officially joined FC Barcelona. The Brazilian right back signed a 5-year deal alongside Josep Maria Bartomeu and Jordi Mestre at the Camp Nou this afternoon.
Pereira joins from Brazilian side São Paulo, the place where he made 64 appearances during 2012 and 2014. The contract agreed with Barça will see him at the club until 2019, if all goes well. Following the signing of the contract, Douglas was then presented on the Camp Nou pitch shortly after a few interviews with Catalan media.
“This is the height of my career, it means everything to me. I am very happy that this has happened for me and I’m looking forward to representing this great club. I hope I can demonstrate my gratitude with my performances on the field.
My new teammates are all amazing players, I’ve watched them for a long time. I’ve played against a couple of them before in Brazil, including Neymar. He is a sensational player and he represents our nation very well.”
Barça make a trip to El Madrigal on Sunday evening to play their first away game of the season, but it is highly unlikely Douglas will be involved in Luis Enrique’s squad. The Brazilian defender will join up with his teammates at training next week.
