Vega: Barcelona are better than Real Madrid
Despite losing to Barcelona on Wednesday Real Betis defender Fernando Vega believes that his side can beat Real Madrid on Saturday and says the Catalans are better than the capital side.
It may be four games into the season but judging by their past performances Real Betis's campaign only kicked off in the second half against Barcelona on Wednesday night.
Los Verdiblancos had failed to score for 329 minutes before Luciano Monzon struck in the Camp Nou but nevertheless Fernando Vega thinks that after their 3-2 loss to the Catalan side they can now beat Real Madrid this weekend.
"Real Madrid do not have as good a team as Barcelona," he said, "They might be determined but if we keep playing as we have done we can win. We have to go out there to try and grab a victory, and it would be a great match to win."
Indeed, whilst Betis have not looked hugely impressive in their opening four games they did show signs of encouragement at the Camp Nou on Wednesday and Vega said he would be particularly frustrated if they lost to Madrid bearing in mind the progression.
"We are beginning to have our own identity and team, we know where we are playing and despite the results we are optimistic," he explained.
Betis could well have snatched a point from Barcelona if they had managed to hold onto the 2-2 scoreline but they were eventually sunk by Eidur Gudjohnsen's late goal. However, there were claims that they were denied a clear penalty when Martín Cáceres bought down Sergio García in the box, Vega though doesn't hold any grudges.
"On television you can see it is a clear penalty but it happens in football, one must trust in the professionals," he concluded.
