  • Short news round up

News from the past week... Betis lost won friendly 1-2 to Fiorentina, then beat Recreativo by the same score, without impressing much in either game. The word seems to be that even when they're not looking shaky at the back, there's a lack of creativity in midfield. Perhaps the signing of Osasuna winger Álvaro Cejudo (who originally grew up in the Betis youth system and, by the way, scored a great goal against Recre) will help solve that. Meanwhile, on the way out are striker Braian Rodríguez (on loan to Numancia, and Cedrick Mabwati, who is not in coach Julio Velázquez´s plans. Talented midfield youngster Sergio Rodríguez may also be allowed to leave on loan to get playing time.
Oh, and in case you haven't seen this already, the start of the Segunda season has been postponed a week over a row about whether Murcia can be relegated for financial reasons. Betis's first game will now be at home on Sunday August 31st.

Actually, I might have left out the most important news of the week - Rubén Castro has signed a new three-year contract, ending speculation that he might be sold before the transfer window closes.

Apparently the Segunda season will start this weekend on schedule after all. And standing a good chance of making the Betis line-up in Sabadell is Lolo Reyes, who today signed a new, improved and richly deserved contract that aims to keep the Chilean midfielder in Seville till 2017

First news from transfer deadline day is that not-as-good-as-he-obviously-thinks-he-is right-back Juanfran, who reportedly had no appetite for playing in the Spanish second tier, has joined Watford of the English equivalent level for a very handy €1.5million. The word is that he could yet be loaned to newly promoted Deportivo La Coruña.

More comings and goings: 30-year-old Algerian international Foued Kadir, an attacking midfielder, has joined on loan from Olympique Marseille (alhough he spent last season with Rennes).
Meanwhile, plucky but limited striker Chuli has been allowed to join Zaragoza, also on a season's loan.
