  • Betis B is promoted to the Second Division B after a memorable comeback (4-1)

Goals by Isuardi, Álvaro González, Juanma and Kevin, the last one in injury time, paved the way for the reserves' return to the bronze category in Spanish football after one season

Today was a great day. The five senses of all the crowd and all the Betis B players were focused on making a comeback after the adverse result obtained in Alicante last week in the first leg match (2-0). And that's what happened, garnished with epic overtones. It was to no avail that the halftime intermission came with 0-1 on the scoreboard because the green-and-whites were able to give the match left in the second half. In the end a blind show of faith and drive they made it possible for the team to achieve the sporting goal that was set at the beginning of this season.

The beginning of the match was an authentic declaration of intentions on the part of Betis B. After five minutes of play Lolo, with a header, harried their rivals' goal for the first time. The visiting team's reply was soon to come and immediately after, Tonino's shot had Montoya's goal on target. It was Orihuela's first warning, the next time they scored. Vivancos brought the crowd at the Benito Villamarín Stadium to silence taking advantage of a rebound in the small area off a corner kick. Betis B took the blow with fortitude and immediately went out to level the match, and they would have managed to had it not been for the crossbar which stopped Lolo's header from going in. Ismael and Marc Mas's mobility worried the defence of the team from Alicante but it didn't seem enough to create real scoring opportunities. In fact, the only opportunity before half-time was for Eneko, whose shot did not hit the mark.

At half time the scoreboard reflected an uninspiring 0-1 which obliged the green-and-whites to score 4 goals if they were to be promoted. And that's just one what happened right from the beginning of the second half as the reserves came on with a full armour of offensive play. Juanma, who was not a starter because of a sudden fever according to a subsequent confession by Óscar Cano, was the first change in the side substituting Lolo. And it was the forward who set up the first clear scoring opportunity with an assist for Álvaro González whose shot went over the crossbar. It was the prelude to the equaliser. Isuardi, who had stepped onto the pitch just five minutes before, executed a perfect direct frequently which was unopposed despite Emilio's stretch to save. In the next piece of play, Álvaro González put the ball into the net off a good offensive drive by Betis B. Just two minutes were enough to make comeback, but they still needed two more goals to definitively turnaround the final knockout round. Óscar Cano put Moyita on for Sofian, and the player showed his gratitude by giving Juanma an assist to make it 3-1. The minutes passed the scoring opportunities kept coming. Until the magical 93rd minute of the match, the moment in which Kevin emerged to head in a goal off a perfect assist by Varela from the corner, the moment which certified Betis B's promotion to the bronze category in Spanish football.

Betis B: Javi Montoya, Kevin, Varela, Sofian (Moyita, min. 70), Caro, Lolo (Juanma, min. 45), Ismael, Carlos García, Marc Mas (Isuardi, min. 54), Álvaro González and Eneko.
