  • N’Diaye pushing for La Liga stay as Sevilla monitor situation

Sunderland midfielder Alfred N’Diaye has told the club he wants to remain in Spain, rather than return to Wearside following his loan spell with Real Betis.

The Senegal international spent the second half of last season on loan in Andalusia, making 15 appearances in total, but was unable to stop the Verdiblancos from being relegated into the Segunda as they finished bottom in La Liga.

The 24-year-old, who has two years remaining on his Black Cats contract, failed to impress at the Stadium of Light and is now hoping to engineer a move to Spain, but is not keen on continuing with Betis in the second tier, despite their desire to sign him on a permanent basis if a cut-price deal could be agreed.

Instead city-rivals Sevilla, who are in the market for a holding midfielder, are rumoured to be interested in the former Bursaspor man and could make a move should they be unable to agree terms with Queens Park Rangers’ Stephane Mbia, who spent a season-long loan at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan last campaign.
