  • Calderón: We’ll see next week if I’m to stay at Betis

Real Betis manager Gabriel Calderón insists his side will head to Pamplona on Sunday to play for pride and win their final game in the Primera against Osasuna. As for his future at the club and whether he’ll be tasked with managing the side in the Segunda next season, he expects to know more next week.

The pride of bidding the Primera farewell with a victory away at Osasuna, is the objective for Gabriel Calderón and his Real Betis side, ahead of Sunday’s final encounter of the season in Pamplona.

“We’re still disappointed about our relegation, but in their pride and obligation to represent the club well, they want to win. We won our last game after such a long time without having done so and we want to win this next match.”

Still uncertain as to whether he’ll remain as manager beyond this final match of the season, Calderón explained that Betis means the world to him and hopefully, he’ll find out one way or the other next week.

“My dream was to manage Betis and keep them in the Primera, which is something I’ve not been able to achieve. In my heart, I’ll never leave Betis. Whether I’m on the inside or the outside, I’ll always be with Betis. Next week we’ll see what happens about my position and if I’m to stay working here or not.”

As for who he thinks will win La Liga and who will join his side in the Segunda, after the drama unfolds on the final weekend of the season in La Liga, Calderón suggested it’s too tight to call.

“I’m not so good at predictions. It’s all wide open. It’s hard to venture what will happen, when everything is as even as it is.”
