    Re: Real Betis-Real Valladolid

Real Valladolid manager Juan Ignacio Martínez stressed the need for his team to back up their positive result against Real Madrid in midweek, by seizing the opportunity to take all three points at Real Betis on Sunday, if they’re to take a step closer towards securing their place in the Primera.

At his press call on Saturday, Juan Ignacio Martínez warned that though Real Betis are already relegated, they will be playing for their pride and will be a very difficult challenge for his Real Valladolid side.

“I’m absolutely certain that Real Betis will be going out there with the intention of trying to give some joy to their fans. I wouldn’t expect anything less from a team that must be feeling very annoyed, given the season they’ve had. Betis have nothing to play for and that possibly makes them even more dangerous. We just have to focus on showing the very best version of ourselves, so we can grab hold of our permanence.”

JIM demands that his team show they need the points at the Benito Villamarín, making the most of the hard-earned point they gained against Real Madrid on Wednesday night and proving that they can repeat such levels of performance.

“Now is the time to put our foot on the gas and demonstrate away from home, that we want to be the Real Valladolid that everyone expects us to be, the Real Valladolid that has been capable of standing up against the big teams at home. It won’t be easy, because Betis are suffering from wounded pride and have quality players, but we need to force our own needs. We’re playing for our survival in the Primera and everything that represents.”

Also underlined by the Real Valladolid manager, was that his players are fully aware of what’s at stake, because if they don’t produce a quality performance and gain the three points, they could very well be joining Real Betis in the Segunda next season.

“All the players are conscious of how important this game is and what we’re playing for. We’re going to have to make a huge effort to win and push ourselves closer to salvation. We’ve got to win the game however we can there. For us, it’s a final that could be definitive towards our salvation. It’s going to be a difficult game and we’ll have to give more than 100% if we’re to get the points.”

      Re: Real Betis-Real Valladolid

suppose it did cross my mind when the fixtures programme was announced that, rather ominously, Valladolid at home is also the game that last sent Betis down to Segunda back in 2009. What I don't think anyone can have predicted is that the season would already be long over by the time the 2014 version game around. For us, at least, I should say - the centre of Seville is currently teeming with Valladolid fans hoping to see the win they need to take them clear of the bottom three.

All that remains for us Béticos is to say goodbye to our neighbours in the stands, good riddance to nearly the entire playing staff and good luck to whoever takes on the massive rebuilding task that lies ahead. Several hundred fans are planning to protest outside the main stand when the game starts, but it's hard to see what's left to rail against. All previous demonstrations this season have achieved is to hound out people who have been impossible to replace: the club is still without a name to fill the all-important role of sporting director, for instance, while no-one seems to trust the new president and the lack of stability is obviously causing chaos behind the scenes.

Nor, as we know, are things any better on the pitch. The word is that Gaby Calderón has fallen out with his players, accusing some of them of faking injuries to get out of playing and banishing others (Guille Sara and Álvaro Vadillo, for example) from matchday squads to punish them for what he sees as their poor attitudes. There are rumours that he's going to deliberately put the season's most disappointing players - Joan Verdú for one - in the starting line-up to make them face the music, but whether or not that's true, the team can certainly expect an, ahem, mixed reception. One or two individuals have emerged with credit - including Antonio Adán, Lolo Reyes and Alfred N'Diaye (who, sadly, is suspended today) - but the rest...? Bah, who gives a damn - we'll have forgotten aboutt them this time next year.

The losing run currently stands at six games and given the massively different amounts at stake for the two teams I think we can assume that figure is more likely than not to have become seven by 9pm tonight. But at least we'll be one game closer to The End.

Real Betis 4-3 Real Valladolid: Relegation shoot-out gives bittersweet joy to Betis fans

Real Betis have nothing to play for as they had already been mathematically relegated, but they wanted to give what many believe are the most loyal fans in the Primera, one last show and take Real Valladolid down with them.

The fun began from the first minute, when Javi Guerra scored one of the fastest goals in the La Liga season, putting Valladolid up 0-1 in the first minute,

However, Betis quickly answered back, with young Pena scoring in the 5th minute to keep things even until half time.

Following the break is when all hell broke loose, with Valladolid’s Pena scoring to put Valladolid back on top in the 50th minute, only to have Jorge Molina finally get on the board just three minutes later.

As if that weren’t exciting enough, Valladolid answered right back scoring his second goal of the evening in the 58th minute to make it 2-3.

Things calmed down for a good 10 minutes, before business picked right back up again, with ‘El Tiburon’ Ruben Castro scoring the equaliser in the 75th minute.

At that point, it appeared that both teams had scored their allotted amount of goals, but Juanfran stepped up in the 90th minute to give his side and the fans, a bittersweet victory as they look to rebuild in the Segunda.

Meanwhile, Valladolid look like they’re back in the relegation scrap, after their impressive midweek draw against Real Madrid had them flying high.
