Real Betis manager, Gabriel Calderon lamented his side’s 3-1 loss to Rayo Vallecano on Sunday evening in Vallecas and feels that there were players that didn’t perform to the level he had expected.
In his post-match press conference, Calderon discussed the loss and the lack of desire from some of his players.
“We have players who didn’t perform as expected. We have to continue living up to the expectations of the fans and the club. We need to try and not commit errors and we have to win the all of our remaining matches. We always play good games and we need to finish the season with dignity and the level of play we demonstrated today.”
Calderon then spoke about the substitution of Paulao, who the Argentine admitted to requesting the change following his two errors that led to two goals.
“As you saw, he requested the substitution because he felt morally responsible for both goals and it’s difficult for any player to suffer that kind of set-back. The team has suffered many hardships, including individual errors and today, the team was the most wounded in all of La Liga.”
Calderon went on to discuss the lacklustre performance from some his players, as reporters implied that Leo Baptistao didn’t perform to his abilities.
“I don’t like to talk about individuals. It’s true that there were some players who didn’t perform as expected. In the situation we currently find ourselves in, we have to die on the pitch and I will speak to those individuals in private. With this loss, I’m the first one it makes very sad, because I came with the intention of helping the club of my life. We’ve lost our last four games and we cannot afford to lose them and you guys know that football is about the mood. We cannot forget that we didn’t win those games.”
