Real Betis striker Jorge Molina is hoping his team can exact a little revenge, when they take on Sevilla this weekend, in what will be the fourth derby of the season between the two teams.
At a press call on Tuesday, Real Betis striker Jorge Molina acknowledged that with very different objectives at stake for both teams, the recent Europa League elimination, not to mention it being the fourth derby encounter this season, this weekend’s Sevillano derby against Sevilla will be a somewhat unusual experience.
“It’s certainly going to be a strange derby, but at the end of the day, it’s still a derby. We’ve played three of them already this season and we know they’re always special games. We’re going into it with lots of enthusiasm, with the intention of winning and giving our fans some joy, because they’ve lived through a very complicated season with us.”
Reflecting on that Europa League exit on penalties against Sevilla, particularly as it came on home turf, Molina admitted that the chance to avenge that defeat is one his team hope to achieve.
“We’re keen to get revenge, because they put us out of a very tightly contested tie. When we had our best spell of play in that game, they scored their second goal. We want to wipe the slate clean of that game and give our fans something to cheer about.”
Speaking at length about the ever decreasing chances of surviving relegation, until the numbers say otherwise in the league table, Molina insists that his team will keep fighting for every points, but is also well aware that their survival in the Primera, isn’t entirely in their own hands, even if they can win all their remaining games.
“Our aim is that whilst it’s still mathematically possible, we have to keep fighting for salvation. That’s what we’re going to do. Obviously we have to be realistic and know it’s going to be very difficult, but we should just keep taking things one step at a time.”
“We know the importance of this next game, so let’s see if we can win it and push ourselves a little bit closer to our objective. Apart from this one and the game against Real Sociedad, all the rest are against direct rivals, so we’ll have to see where we are, if we can win those games.”
“Obviously we do look at the numbers. It would reflect badly on us if we didn’t. We know it’s going to be very difficult, but we’ve also got direct rivals we’ll be facing. The only thing we can do now, is take three points from every game, then wait to see what happens to everyone else.”
Finally and assuming that Real Betis do descend to the Segunda, Molina assured that he’ll be more than happy to remain at the club.
“I have two more years on my contract here and when I arrived, the club was in the Segunda. Even when I was here in the Segunda, I knew that this is always a club worthy of being in the Primera and as such, I’d have absolutely no problems staying here.”
