  • Calderón: If we don’t beat Malaga, the rest of the results aren’t important

Real Betis manager, Gabriel Calderon stressed that the future of the club hinges on the outcome of Monday’s La Liga clash against Andalusian rivals, Malaga, because if they lose to Bernd Schuster’s side, then the “rest of the results aren’t important”

In his pre-match press conference, Calderon admitted that his squad have been ravaged by injuries from playing three competitions this season and that Brazilian centre-back, Paulao will be out of action as well.

“[Paulao] isn’t able to play tomorrow as he didn’t pass the tests yesterday. We are still having problems on defence and we lost Salva for a couple of weeks.

“Every game is a final because we have less margin for error and the team is taking on every match with the right frame of mind. We have to win games because if we don’t the rest of the results will not be important.

“Málaga have won away matches recently at difficult stadiums. The key will be in the team’s intensity and focus, and not letting Malaga play their game like they have in recent matches.

“I don’t want to talk about that when it hasn’t happened. While mathematically we are in with a chance to stay in the First Division we have to play the matches and if that is the case, we will keep fighting.”

Calderon then discussed the change of president and stressed that it will have no affect on his side’s performance.

“It’s a stable change and therefore it does not affect us because we are the same people and we will keep moving on in the same direction. Furthermore, we are so focused on tomorrow’s game and we are so immunized by injuries and refereeing decisions, it’s really nothing” “I’ve had the support of the board from the first minute and I felt wanted and all I’ve done is show my gratitude and respond by working hard. The new president continues to support us just the same.”

The Argentine went on to praise striker, Jorge Molina has rediscovered his form at the most vital part of the season.

“His goal came in handy for everyone. I always congratulate the team and the players, especially those who play less. When you see how Molina went out on the pitch it is because they are working well in the background and in the service of the team. Their performance in a role model for the younger ones. In terms of earning your place as a starter, in the case of Molina he was a starter against Atletico Madrid. Those who play less may well be more important when they get a chance to play.”
