Caparrós: We have to squeeze everything we can out of this game

Levante manager Joaquín Caparrós warned that Betis will be fighting for their very lives on Thursday night, when they visit the Ciutat de Valéncia, but stressed that what matters most, is his own team remaining focused on their own objectives.

Ahead of Thursday’s home game, Joaquín Caparrós pointed out that visiting Real Betis could still fancy their chances of survival in La Liga, if they can secure points against his team.

“Betis are in a situation of need and things could still turn out for them, but everything will come from leaving our place with a positive result.”

Caparrós also felt that Betis, eventually, made the right move in appointing Gabriel Calderón, their third coach of what has been a dire season for the Andaluz club in La Liga.

“The arrival of Calderón has brought enthusiasm back to their fans, their team is motivated and Gabriel is a magnificent manager, who can do a wonderful job. I think it was a successful move hiring him, though we will try to make things as difficult as possible for him.”

As for the league standing of Levante, a win against Betis would put them on 40 points. Talking about what number of points will guarantee permanence in La Liga, isn’t of interest to Caparrós, just the results at this stage of the season.

“A few weeks ago we might have said this or that number of points would be sufficient, but that’s meaningless in football. What matters is once you’ve got the points tied up, nothing else.”

“We have to stay focused on what this match means for ourselves. It would give us another step ahead and we have to squeeze everything we can out of it.”

Xumetra: Betis are coming here to fire off their final rounds

Levante midfielder, Jordi Xumetra stressed that they need to be fully focused when they host Real Betis in their midweek La Liga contest, as he feels it’s a “trap game” and that Real Betis will be looking to “fire off their last rounds” as they face certain relegation.

In his interview with reporters on Monday, Xumetra spoke about the upcoming match and the pitfalls they face if they don’t show Betis the utmost respect.

“Betis has good players. They are on a good run of form and they’re elimination from the Europa League was a shame, as was their loss against Atletico Madrid, but I think they are on the right track and will prove to be a difficult opponent.

“They are last in the standings, eight points adrift from safety and their hopes of survival passes through here and they’ve put in a great effort on Thursday.”

Xumetra then spoke about his own side and their point against Espanyol last weekend.

“We want to win and above all, bring joy to our fans and while we didn’t beat Espanyol, we gained confidence and it brings us closer to the goal, which is to remain in the Primera.

“We knew going into it that Espanyol were a direct rival and while we would’ve won 3-0 at home, it was important not to lose and the goal differential.”

          Re: Levante - Real Betis

With just nine games left to play, including a trip to Barcelona, and at least 19 points still needed to guarantee Primera, Betis really haven't got any time to waste. If they don't start winning tonight, they've got no chance. (And even if they do, they've still got very, very little chance.) But we haven't won away in the league for very nearly a year and tonight's opponents are a tough-to-beat outfit led by one Joaquín Caparrós, who's Sevillista from his horns to the tip of his tail.

And of course, the Bético injury list is long - and growing. The news that Antonio Amaya will be out for three weeks after suffering a groin strain on Sunday (while nonsensically being asked to perform as a makeshift right-back), means Betis only have two fit central defenders in Paulao and Figueras, and have had to call in two youngsters to make up the numbers. Further forward, Verdú is still not ready, Chuli has just had an operation and Braian Rodríguez is suspended. I think we can take it for granted that Leo Baptistao and Rubén Castro will be back in the team after their weekend off and eager to take their chances against Costa Rican Keylor Navas, one of the best goalkeepers in Primera.

Anyone who's seen Betis play in the last month will know that they are no longer the worst team in the known universe, but they're far from being the Andalucían Bayern Munich either so I'll be taking my place in front of the TV screen in an hour's time more in hope than expectation. And, yes, you're right - 10pm on a Thursday night is a stupid time for a football match.

Rubén Castro returns to eleven Betis against Levante

Since the starting of Real Betis is known for the match against Levante. Gabriel Humberto Calderón has chosen a block that maintains the structure of the usual and reconstructs the defense, necessitated by the accumulation of low on that line. The Argentine coach has opted for Adam; Juanfran, Paulao, Jordi, Girl, Lolo Reyes, Ndiaye, Cedrick, Baptistão, Juan Carlos, and Rubén Castro . Thus, the big news is the return to block Ruben Castro, who was booked by Calderon in the Betis-Athletic, while other men as Baptistão or Cedrick not acted starting in the last duel in Villamarín, the first because the club would not pay stipulated Atletico could act for the Brazilian and the second came during the meeting in place of Juan Carlos but he did not start. Ndiaye, who arrived this morning in Valencia, is in perfect condition to operate in the City of Valencia against Levante Joaquin Caparros, who lines up next once: Keylor Navas; Vyntra, Navarro, Juanfran, Nikos; Diop, Simao; Xumetra, El Zhar, Pedro Rios, and Barral.

Levante 1-3 Real Betis: Betis brilliant as they keep hope alive

Real Betis are in desperate need to win every single match from here until the end of the season and after showing flashes of their former selves over recent weeks, it was time to take advantage of their form and earn three points against a Levante side looking to keep their European hopes alive.

Real Betis came to the Ciutat de Valencia looking for their first away win of the season, and came flying out of the gates.

From the start, Betis dominated play while Levante, as is their nature, chose to sit back and play the countre-attack.

However, they strategy backfired as Salva Sevilla scored the opening goal for Real Betis just 12 minutes into the match.

Levante were able to regroup after waking up and moved down to the other end, forcing goalkeeper Antonio Adan to make a brilliant save, until the 26th minute when Pape Diop broke through and scored the equaliser.

Yet, Real Betis refused to give up as the two sides continued to do battle, taking a 1-1 score into the half.

Following the break, both sides came out with a renewed purpose, as both felt they could win and earn the three points, but after trading blows for 20 minutes, Real Betis manager Gabriel Calderon chose to bolster his attack, putting Jorge Molina on for Juanfran.

Calderon’s gamble paid off as Molina scored just minutes later to break the draw.

The jubilation from Betis had barely died down before Ruben Castro scored the third goal of the evening for Betis, but at the cost of Salva Sevilla who took a hit and looking injured, was subbed off for Nono.

Real Betis continued to twist the knife, making Keylor Navas save Levante on his own, but in the end, the Betis with the renewed confidence prevailed and need three more wins to get out of the relegation zone, while Levante can surely say goodbye to their European hopes.

Calderon: It was a must win game against a difficult opponent

Real Betis manager, Gabriel Calderon was elated following his side’s first away win of the season, a 1-3 result against Levante at the Ciutat del Valencia and the Argentine boss praised his players for responding in a must-win game.

In his post-match press conference, Calderon spoke about the stunning win and analysed the performance of his players, who continued their impressive form.

“It was a must-win game against a difficult opponent. After we draw (1-1 in the first half), the team improved dramatically in the second half and with the substitutions, we earn a well-deserved win.

“While we are still mathematically alive, we will continue to fight. We continue to dream about survival and we are going to continue fighting until the very last second. Every match is a final because we no longer have a single margin for error.”

Betis will now prepare to face Andalusian rival and direct relegation opponent, Malaga on Monday 31st March.

Caparros: There are eight finals left and we need to fight for every last point

Levante manager, Joaquin Caparros lamented his side’s 1-3 loss to Real Betis on Thursday evening at the Ciutat de Valencia and feels that his team didn’t rise to the occasion and praised Real Betis for playing with conviction.

In his post-match press conference, Caparros analysed his team’s poor performance against a motivated Betis side.

“It was a bad games, we weren’t at the level we shoud’ve been at in terms of confidence. Betis was and they had three chances and scored three goals. The match was one-sided due to their success.”

Caparros went on to discuss what the team must improve in the final eight games of the season.

“We have to be self-critical and prepare ourselves for a difficult match against Granada. There are eight finals left and we need to fight for every last point. We need to correct the errors we made tonight.

“We need to add four or five point in these next eight games and we know what we have to do.”

                        Re: Levante - Real Betis

You know what might have been the most encouraging thing about this win? The fact it actually seemed quite routine. You'd have thought that after nearly an entire year without picking up three points away from home, the first victory to break this run would be an agonising kind of affair - but in the end Betis coasted home quite comfortably. There wasn't an awful lot between the two teams if we're being honest, but the visitors showed just a touch more class - especially after Vadillo came on, which is another positive sign for the future in itself - and scored three good team goals through Salva Sevilla, Jorge Molina and Rubén Castro on 12, 69 and 75 minutes.

Alfred N'Diaye's international team-mate Papa Diop equalised Salva's opener with a sharp shot from outside the box that seemed to catch Adán by surprise after 25 minutes, but I don't think even Caparrós can claim that Levante really put Betis under consistent pressure thereafter. The visitors, who were nicely compact throughout, could even had a couple more if they'd been more ruthless from good late positions.

For once the referee didn't play a major part in the result (either way) and if we did get a bit of luck it might have been before the game, when Paulao was forced to withdraw with an as-yet unspecified injury. This forced N'Diaye into the back four, which allowed Salva, who inevitably drifts further forward than the Senagalese, to take his place in midfield - and therefore score the first goal. That set the tone for a thoroughly satisfactory evening.

Betis: Adán; Juanfran (Jorge Molina, m. 64), Ndiaye, Jordi, Chica; Lolo Reyes, Salva Sevilla (Nono, m. 78); Cedrick (Vadillo, m. 57), Baptistao, Juan Carlos; Rubén Castro

                        Goals: 0-1, m. 12: Salva Sevilla. 1-1, m. 25: Diop. 1-2, m. 69: Jorge Molina. 1-3, m. 75: Rubén Castro
