Real Betis manager, Gabriel Calderon was devastated following his side’s extra-time, Europa League loss to cross-town rivals, Sevilla on Thursday evening at their Benito Villamarin stadium and feels that both the team and the fans deserved to go through and be happy after all that’s happened this season.
In his post-match press conference, Calderon spoke about the match and is worried about how this will affect the team psychologically.
“I’m sorry for the fans, they deserved this joy. In the first half, the team was locked and didn’t do anything which they normally do. We allowed a well-deserved goal. In the second half, we went out as ourselves and they scored on the only scoring chance they had. Then we went to penalties and the rest is history.
“We suffered three cruel injuries. Everything is happening to make sure ‘el beticismo’ continues to suffer.
“I have no more words. I congratulate the players. In the first half we were locked out from doing what we do so well.”
Calderon then commented on the upcoming La Liga match against second place, Atletico Madrid and is worried about the state of mind of his players.
“We’ll see how this team is physically and psychologically”
