Sevilla goalkeeper Beto is of the firm conviction that his team can and will make a comeback on Thursday, as they seek to overturn the deficit against Real Betis, in the second-leg of the Europa League derby.
Speaking to the official TV Channel of Sevilla FC, goalkeeper Beto remains full of optimism ahead of the return leg of the Europa League tie against Real Betis at the Benito Villamarín on Thursday, insisting that his team can’t wait for the whistle to start the game.
“I wish the game was today! We’re really looking forward to the day of the game, to throw everything we can at it and look to do something historic for this club. I think it’s a nice complication, one that’s uniting the fans and the team. I think it makes us stronger and will take us to where we want to be.”
Beto also feels that the ambition of all the players in the team, shows they’re keen to achieve everything they possibly can with Sevilla.
“The team is switched on to our objectives, we really want to achieve them and that’s very important, when a team has that desire. You can see that the players are really focused and keen to do things well, for ourselves, for our families, so that’s why I think this season is going positively, with ups and downs like any other team, but I believe that in general, we’re doing our jobs well.”
Looking back on the 0-2 defeat at the Sánchez-Pizjuan, Beto admitted that his team hadn’t made the most of their own chances, but hopes that will be different at the Benito Villamarín.
“We weren’t able to take the chances we created, but hopefully we’ve saved them all up for Thursday and that they all go in this time.”
As for how his team will approach the game, although well aware of the two-goal deficit his team must overcome, Beto stressed that it’s important his team don’t lose their heads and remain sensible and patient, throughout the whole ninety minutes.
“Going at this like madmen is the worst thing we could do, because Betis are going to play the same way as they did in the first game; waiting to counter-attack into the gaps and spaces. We have to go for the game with everything we’ve got, with enthusiasm, but also with intelligence and organisation. Sevilla will never give up… never!”
