    Believing is seeing

Each day that passes, every game they play, this Betis becomes increasingly impossible to access, transform vision into reality and miracle argument. But to consummate that belief, to enable the fight for salvation, inexcusably need to win Sunday to Elche in the Martinez Valero.

The meeting comes at a good time for Betis, surely the best of the season for the team and for the fans, who enjoy following the 0-2 victory at the Sanchez Pizjuan European derby and found new reasons to believe in his team after many months of disappointment.

Betis Sevilla won several arguments are the same to be put on the table in the final of the League to try to attain salvation, the visitors stay. Of course to do so must win Sunday to Elche, no choice. Precisely what is needed Betis engage two or three consecutive victories in the league to see closer salvation, to make beads. A win against Elche also further strengthen moral already sky after leaving almost sentenced the tie against Sevilla, would permanence, its border, somewhat closer , closest point. In contrast, not winning, it would zoom out, who knows, definitely.

But now the Betis and go to the fields, is presented in the parties, more reliable, real arguments. Demonstrated at the Sanchez Pizjuan. It has limitations, agreed, but also some virtues. Starting with a more than valid good goalie, following a defense that seems to have gained confidence by a player pillar, N'Diaye, and ending with a front in addition to Ruben Castro and displayed, and goals, Leo Baptistão.

With this, and with some possible retouching, like Caro for the side, has grown Betis, which has become, with Calderon and reinforcements in a superior team and the points which reflects the table 18. This Betis Calderon is not the worst of First. Betis this season, yes, the Calderon, no. And so he can fight one on one with their rivals, the first Elche, who also fight for those places of salvation.

    Probable teams:

Elche CF: Herrera Suárez, Botia, Lombán, Schism, Ruben Perez Marquez, Carles Gil, Coro, Fidel; Boakye.

Substitutes: Toño, Pelegrin, Mantecón, Sanchez Rivera, Herrera, Manu del Moral.

Real Betis: Adam, Juanfran, George, because, Zach, N'Diaye, Nono, Salva Sevilla, Cedrick, Ruben Castro, Leo Baptists.

Betis searches Elche light at end of tunnel

A victory for Calderon increase permanency options

Football is a sport so great that in just a week is capable of turning the tables and black it was yesterday, today seems clearer. That's what happened to this Betis Calderon evicted in the table from the First Division and, thanks to victories against Getafe last Sunday, and Sevilla, on Thursday, it has taken the necessary confidence to believe in a miracle that today seems utopian. The 'yes you can' has it become the battle cry Betis fans, who believes that a win today in Elche can give a push to make the fight bético set until the last day for salvation.

This is what has a victory in the field of rivals. achieved in the 0-2 derby last round knockout of the Europa League match at the Sanchez Pizjuan, has breathed some joy to a suffering hobby takes a year enduring teasing and banter typical of the other half of the city. Betis, true to its historical style, so many emotional ups and downs can offer your selfless parish, offered an adrenaline self-esteem to the diabetics and clear step in strengthening the belief in his abilities to a wardrobe that still refuses to surrender.

All setting in the work of some winter signings that have features that the team had forgotten and in the management of Calderón . Ndiaye is a leader on defense, either as a central defender or midfielder, Baptistão gives a dynamism between lines not owned Betis and Adam has shown the importance, especially for a team with limited qualities, having a porter guarantees under sticks. However, the signings have not only grown in this Betis Calderon who can weigh the lost time with Juan Carlos Garrido on the bench. few of the first team members begin to offer features previously fell short of the minimum enforceable . Dídac has grown to meet a good level, Cedrick is a constant nuisance to the opponent and Ruben Castro remains the benchmark scorer irrevocable tasks. Ie Betis finally is able to compete.

The victory in the derby is fine to gain confidence and "be a joy for the body," but of no use for practical purposes in the league if he is unable to defeat this afternoon in Elche Martinez Valero. All Alicante is one of the many teams fighting to avoid relegation, and knows Betis defeat would give a plus to achieve more confidence. For this reason in the eastern city have taken today's appointment as an end to acts of homage to the fans to go en masse to support their players. Also, Miki Roque also have the memory on the eve of the match .

    Without Lolo Reyes

For appointment at Elche, Betis has low by injury Verdú, Nacho, Nosa and Chuli , besides the Lolo Reyes, who finally did not recover in time muscle mishap that made him retire from the field in the last derby just as the set Betis scored the 0-2. Chile will be replaced in the team by Nono , who was not in the match against Sevilla, and the umpire could be Salva Sevilla. Another novelty in eleven need fresh legs could be girl , who returns from suspension and give some air to an exhausted Juanfran . Otherwise the basic scheme will be next acting in recent weeks, although it is doubtful whether Baptistão act as a second striker or fallen right wing.

Fran Escribá , coach of Elche, is wary of the eleven points of difference that separate the two sets, so it is wary of the time so that Betis live. Just down from Edu Albacar with a torn ligament in his right ankle while recovering goalkeeper Toño and midfielder Aaron Ñíguez, although it seems that neither will start. ilicitano team coach subtracted transcendence shock because after this match there will still be many points at stake . Yes, keep the same defense last weekend and not reserved for Botía, which has four warnings, to play another final in seven days to the Granada. Boakye could start at the expense of Cristian Herrera, although yes that is the return to the starting exbético Rubén Pérez . Javi Marquez, more offensive, and Carlos Sanchez, more defensive, the other post was played in the midfield against Betis.

      Re: Elche-Real Betis

You know how, when a child actor gets nominated for an Oscar, the red-carpet interviewer always reminds them that they've got school tomorrow? Well, this is Betis doing the same - returning to real life after a brief moment in fairyland. And, in case we'd forgotten, things are still pretty grim. Betis will probably need to be one of the five or six best teams in Spain over the last 12 games just to have a sniff of staying up, and although we're obviously improving, that remains a big ask.

Besides, the players must be shattered - and will only get more so. If this game seems to be coming too soon after Thursday's excitement for me - and you too, I expect - imagine how the men who actually did the hard work must feel? Gaby Calderón must be tempted to give some of his squad a rest - perhaps Juanfran, who's played more minutes than any other Betis player this season, or Cedrick, who is always the first to run out of gas - but on the other hand he won't want to tinker too much with a winning formula. Lolo Reyes hasn't recovered fully from the cramp he suffered late on Thursday and has stayed behind, but Nono, Chica and Matilla are available again.

Elche are among the big group of team still battling against relegation, but they're a tough nut to crack, as we found when they won a hard-fought game at the Villamarín earlier in the season. They've conceded just one goal in their five home games in 2014 and only 11 all season (just one more than Barcelona and Real Madrid, in fact) so although it seems wrong after Thursday to remind ourselves that Betis haven't won in the league since last April, there are definitely easier places to break that run than Elche. That said, it's impossible to see how Betis could stay up if they didn't take three points today - especially with Atlético Madrid on the horizon next weekend.

Deep down, we all know that the chances are it's all too late for Liga salvation, but it's still more fun watching Betis now than it was, say, six weeks ago. Let's see if they can't keep the dream alive for another week.

              Elche 0-0 Real Betis:

Weak finishing leads to a lack of goals

Neither Elche nor Betis could break the deadlock and despite plenty of good attacking moves, neither side could find the killer final ball or shot in front of goal. Elche may feel hard done by though, with a penalty claim rejected right at the death.

Plenty of good intentions, but little end product marked the opening period of the game at the Martínez Valero, with little to really test the keepers at either end in the early exchanges.

The first clear chance when it came, fell for Elche in the 14th minute, with Rubén Pérez taking a pop at goal from the edge of he area, but straight into the hands of Betis keeper Adán.

With just over fifteen minutes played, Betis left-back Dídac Villa was struggling and unable to continue, so Calderón had to send on Caro in his place. Play swung in both direction, but still without cutting edge from the two sides.

Elche began to mount some good pressure, but were meeting with stiff resistance from the Betis defence. When the visitors got forward, Rubén Castro had a good opportunity to open the scoring, but lacked the control to make the most of it, losing the ball too easily in the 26th minute.

Another chance came the way of Betis though in the 28th minute. Cedrick with lightning speed down the left flank, before cutting in and firing the ball into the area, which caught everyone off their guard and ended up striking the post.

An excellent ball from N’Diaye sent Rubén Castro through on goal in the 33rd minute, but his shot was weak and easily gathered by Manu Herrera. A moment later at the other end, Elche had a dangerously positioned free-kick. Damián struck it well, but Adán matched the effort by tipping the ball over the crossbar. N’Diaye against with a great ball and once more, Rubén Castro on the end of it for Betis in the 36th minute, but he couldn’t hit the target.

Betis were having the better chances, though they weren’t making the most of them, before more misfortune with injuries came in the 40th minute. Caro, who had replaced Dídac earlier in the half, was now injured himself and Amaya had to come on in his place. The midweek exertions, clearly taking their toll on the Andaluz side.

Despite the walking wounded look to their players, Betis continued to soldier on and kept pushing forward. Following a corner in the 44th minute, Perquis was claiming a penalty for a push inside the area, but nothing was given. The half closed with the visitors still the stronger looking side, as Nono had an opportunity, but was well off the mar with his finish.

Elche came out on the front foot in the second half, looking for more attacking momentum and control. After Manu Del Moral saw an effort blocked by Amaya, they looked to flank the Betis defence, but as a dangerous cross was whipped in by Damián in the 49th minute, Adán was on his toes well and up to punch clear.

Betis managed to break forward in the 51st minute, but when Nono found a good opening, his shot from outside the area was always on the rise and into the crowd behind the goal. Elche were seeing more possession, but without any cutting edge, whilst Betis pressed forward in the 56th minute and just as N’Diaye hurled himself at a good ball into the area, Manu Herrera was out quickly to show safe hands.

After Elche made their first change of the game, with Manu Del Moral replaced by Mendes, the substitute wasted no time getting involved in the action in the 61st minute, with a great skill to open up a shooting chance at left corner of the area, but wasteful with his finish, which sailed up towards the clouds.

Although the home side were starting to look more dangerous going forward, the pace of Cedrick was still causing them problems on the counter, but what he wasn’t lacking in velocity, he was when it came to finishing for Betis in the 65th minute.

Both sides opted for changes in the 70th minute, as Betis made their final move from the bench, with Vadillo on for an exhausted Baptistao, whilst Elche made their second, with Boakye on for Cristian Herrera in attack.

Betis had a great chance in the 72nd minute, as Rubén Castro fired speculatively from a wide position, catching the Elche defence by surprise, but not their keeper Manu Herrera, who reacted well to make the save. Up at the other end and Carles Gil with lovely skill to forge himself an opening in the 74th minute, but just as he was about to pull the trigger, Jordi Figueiras was there with a superbly timed challenge.

Perhaps the best chance of the game then came for Elche in the 77th minute, with a corner floated into the area, Boakye with the goal at his mercy after losing his marker, but somehow managing to misdirect his header. The home side continued to pressure, whilst Betis were looking for opportunities to counter.

Into the final ten minutes, more chances for Elche, as first Boakye fired wide and then Mendes over the crossbar, but the home side were pushing hard for the winner and Betis had plenty of defending to do. Escribá made his final change for the home side in the 84th minute, as Fidel replaced Carles Gil.

Still Elche attacked with the clock ticking, but Betis were holding firm. Coro wanted a penalty after he went down inside the area in the 87th minute, but the referee wasn’t convinced, given how easily he’d hit the ground. Betis had to hold firm as the game went beyond ninety minutes and into stoppage time, but they managed to do that well enough and in the 92nd minute, broke forward well themselves, only for Salva Sevilla to fluff a great opening with a weak shot into the hands of Manu Herrera.

Drama in final minute of added time though, as Elche launched their final assault, looking for the winner. Coro again going down inside the Betis area and this time, there was certainly contact and a shout for a penalty, but once more, the referee was having none of it.

A point apiece then and neither will be satisfied with the outcome. Elche unable to pull away from the relegation scrap, whilst Betis unable to fill the gap between themselves and safety with more points, which is looking more like an abyss, as the weeks go by.

Escribá: We got forward well, but lacked certainty in our finishing

Elche manager Fran Escribá had mixed feelings about the 0-0 draw against Real Betis, satisfied that his side had kept another clean sheet at home, but hoping that his team could have taken all three points.

No goals and a point apiece left Fran Escribá dismayed that Elche hadn’t secured victory, but looked towards the positives he could take.

“Finishing the game 0-0 leaves me disappointed, because we wanted to win, but at least we’ve recovered our intensity. We came into this game after being left red-faced last weekend and the team has done everything they could today, trying to win.”

Reflecting on that, Escribá then suggested that taking a point is better than leaving the game empty handed, pleased that his team had kept another clean sheet at home.

“I’m content with the point. We wanted three, we’re not stupid, but it’s not always easy to do that. We’ve shown consistency by not conceding at home again and it’s from that strength that we’ll gain our permanence.”

As for the lack of goals, Escribá felt his team had done everything right in their attacking, aside from applying the killer touch at the end of moves.

“We are what we are. We got ourselves forward well enough, but lacked certainty in our finishing.”

Unable to pull themselves away from the battle at the bottom end of the table, the Elche manager doesn’t have time for anyone who doesn’t share his and the team’s belief, that they can survive in the Primera.

“There’s always pessimists lurking around. It was the same last year and the team didn’t let anyone down. We have to remain optimistic.”

Finally, Escribá acknowledged the lively support from the fans.

“Few teams aside from the big club, have fans like we do. The Betis fans are also a good example of supporters who get behind their team. Today, two teams faced one another, both with great sets of fans.”

Calderón: We’ll keep the faith whilst we have a mathematical chance

Real Betis manager Gabriel Calderón felt that given the tiredness of his players, a draw was a fair result at Elche on Sunday lunchtime, before continuing his complaints about the poor scheduling in La Liga.

Following the 0-0 draw at Elche, Real Betis manager Gabriel Calderón praised the efforts of his players, but noted that they we’re simply too tired to do any better.

“Taking our physical condition into account, I’m pleased we didn’t concede a goal. We had chances to score, but it was a fair result. Our aim was to work with what energy we had in our legs and remain organised. If we’d had the legs to do so, we could have gone on to win the game. We wanted to do that, but the legs wouldn’t permit that and when you play so many games in such a short space of time, it’s very difficult.”

Calderón also agreed that three points would have been better, when it comes to their slim hopes of avoiding relegation, but pointed out that they’re still not dead yet.

“We needed the three points, but even when we can’t do that, it’s still very positive not to concede, for the morale of the team. We’ll keep the faith whilst we have a mathematical chance.”

Having complained about the midday kick-off his team had been handed, ahead of the game, Calderón continued to vent his anger with further criticism towards those who schedule the fixtures in La Liga.

“It’s organisation that needs to be looked at, when we’ve played a game on Thursday night, then we’re scheduled for a game at mid-day on a Sunday. I think it’s utterly incredible. Those responsible for such arrangements, aren’t up to the standards of La Liga. Today, Betis were prejudiced, tomorrow it will be someone else. It surprises me a great deal, because this is supposed to be the best league in the world. I think journalists should be demanding accountability and competence.”

                    Re: Elche-Real Betis

If we needed any reminding about the size of the task facing Betis in the league, today we got another big hint. Put simply, everything has to go right from here to the end of the season - and this morning almost nothing did. The side put in a perfectly respectable performance against stout opposition, but two first-half injuries basically robbed Gaby Calderón of the chance to bring on fresh legs and for the last 20 minutes the Betis players were clearly shattered. They got into some great positions from counter-attacks, but tired minds make poor decisions and Elche were repeatedly let off the hook. In a normal season we'd say shrug and be grateful for a hard-fought point, but in the current circumstances it was hardly worth the bother.

On the plus side, we saw once again that the Betis defence have toughened up beyond all recognition from six weeks ago, and although Elche had the majority of possession, Antonio Adán wasn't called upon to make any saves as crucial or as difficult as those he pulled off on Thursday. And that was despite two nasty-looking injuries. First Dídac Vila twisted an ankle after 15 minutes and was replaced by Caro, who filled in at right-back while Javi Chica switched to the left, but before half-time Caro himself went down when his knee got horribly jammed up, and Calderón was forced to use Antonio Amaya as an emergency full-back. This makeshift line-up performed heroically in the second half, but we lost an overlapping option on the right and left Vadillo for Baptistao, who was also carrying a knock, as the only possible change in the final half-hour. By the end even Alfred N'Diaye, who as usual was everywhere in the first period, looked to be treading water. It was painful to watch.

Elche might claim they should have had a penalty in the very last second of the game, but overall Betis were slightly the classier side and in Cedrick had the most threatening individual player of the game (indeed, in the first half he even hit the outside of a post). But understandable tiredness prevented the visitors from landing the killer blow and a year in Segunda is looming larger than ever.

Betis: Adán; Chica, Perquis, Jordi, Dídac (Caro, m. 16) (Amaya, m. 39); Nono, Ndiaye; Cedrick, Salva Sevilla, Baptistao (Vadillo, m. 70); Rubén Castro.

Calderon: "We got tired of the game"

"The physical did not give us more," said the Argentine coach

The coach of Real Betis , Gabriel Humberto Calderón , said just after the home opener against Elche "The draw is fair. It is best that we do not get shot. It lacked fluidity in the game for lack of legs. Despite that we had chances to win the game but the result is fair for both teams. We arrived very tired at the end of the game for Thursday's game, "said Argentine coach referring to commitment leg of the knockout stages of the Europa League match on Thursday at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan-against Sevilla.

Calderon took the opportunity to speak out and express their displeasure with the schedules. "Six and a half days of playing you can run but when parties accumulate more difficult, it's a shame that teams representing Spain in Europe do play a Thursday Sunday morning. I think the heads are not at the level of the League, today and tomorrow Betis harm to another ... The organization should reflect a little and if you have not played football that ask who did it has done, "he added.

In qualifying the situation in which the Betis box is Calderón highlighted in the press room of the Martinez Valero "We needed the three points but did not give us the physical for more. Our idea was how we had the legs, an organization and if we had legs to go to the party because we needed to win today. As you saw the players wanted to go but when you can with legs is complicated. "

Calderón has also referred to the performance of the referee's match, Catalan Álvarez Izquierdo and complaints from both teams about the possibility of being called a penalty. "The last penalty demanded at the last second because I did not see him plugging up the other was asking the player went and I did see was the light of a Perquis grab."

The match was marked by physical problems suffered by the Betis during the first 45 minutes. In this respect, Calderón has referred to the injury suffered by the squad Caro , who was forced off by a bad turn in his left knee. " Let's wait for the medical analysis no mistake , "said Calderon. As for replacing Dídac, who had to leave the pitch after suffering an entry of a rival in his left ankle, Calderon said that "this is a coup."

Finally, Calderon says the team is still fighting in the league. "We mathematically while we are there, we still have. If we clasficamos Thursday, hopefully, we have three weeks playing Thursday and Sunday. I do not know how they organized, "he said in reference to schedules.

                        Caro sprained knee ligament

Not good news coming on the squad Caro . The defender was forced off injured due to a bad turn when his knee in the final stretch of the first part was trying to snatch the ball to a player of Elche. As reported by the medical services of Betis, Caro suffers sprained ligaments in his left knee but will not be until tomorrow when tests are carried out to ascertain the exact extent of the injury.

Caro has barely had a chance to play 23 minutes of the match Betis played in Elche. Quarter hour meeting took to the field to replace the lateral Dídac , which reports the club suffered a hard kick in the ankle that prevented him go left on the pitch by a bruised joint. The prognosis is not nearly as disturbing as in the case of Caro and Dídac, which after being replaced watched the game from the same bench of substitutes while receiving first aid, will be 48 hours of rest for, in principle, re- training next Tuesday.

Meanwhile, striker Leo Baptistão , who suffered a knee to his right quadriceps , also rest for the next two days. If there are no last minute problems as Leo Baptistão Dídac both may be included in the squad of Gabriel Humberto Calderón for engagement next Thursday against Sevilla in the second leg of the knockout phase of the Champions League.
