  • Cédrick: We have to get the three points this Sunday and fight until the very end

Real Betis winger, Cedrick recently spoke about the team’s disappointing season and stated that they need three points against Getafe and cannot allow themselves to think about their upcoming Europa League match against Sevilla.

In a recent press conference, Cedrick stressed the importance of getting a win over Getafe and leaving behind their performance of Villarreal last Sunday.

“We need to win this Sunday. We have to take it each Sunday at a time, think game by game. First focus on getting three points this Sunday, only then can we start thinking about what comes later.

“We are in this situation on our own merits. The referees may have made mistakes but we are the ones who have put us where we are. We will continue fighting until the end to change the situation. As the man says, you have to fight like men. Like any match you can win or lose but at the end of the day, after the work is done you have to look each other in the eye like dignified men. Like the boss said last week. Whilst there are points enough to be had there is still hope. We shall keep fighting until the end. Despite the number of matches to be played the team is still focussed on the fact that we have to get the three points this Sunday and fight until the very end.”

Cedrick stressed that one of the highlights of a very disappointing season has been the support of the fans.

“It’s quite a good sensation, because it gives us more drive to go out there on Sunday and give the fans some joy. I’ve never seen such loyalty from the fans. You don’t get this anywhere else in the world. It is appreciated.”

The Congolese forward went on to discuss his own personal situation and if he thought he would leave last January.

“Things went well for me at the beginning of the season. Then I didn’t seem able to help the team as much as I wanted to. I kept striving to help the team every day. I couldn’t say if I was leaving this January. You never know what is going to happen in this game. I am happy, and that is what really matters. The Club has always stood by me and has given me the confidence to stay here. Calderón is counting on me and that is why I’m happy here.”

Cedrick went on to discuss the upcoming Europa League derby against Sevilla, but stressed that the most important match is the one against Getafe on Sunday.

“I think the team is motivated and keen to win matches. The feeling of helplessness with what has been happening with the referees could happen to anyone. We cannot use it as an excuse, we have to look towards the matches that are coming up. We have to take it a day at a time. First we need to focus on Getafe. Then we shall think about Sevilla. I want to win this Sunday. Then we will see what happens on Thursday. Everyone knows it is a special match and we would all like to play. But first things first, we have to beat Getafe. On Monday we shall start to talk about the Derby.

“As I have never had the chance to play in one I don’t know what it is like. I am very motivated. If I have the opportunity to help the team, I’ll do so with all the strength in the world. The fans in the street have been telling me that we have to win these derbies. There is something very special about derbies, but first we must focus on Sunday and nothing else.”
