Real Betis manager Gabriel Calderón was once more unhappy about poor refereeing decisions against his team, feeling they deserved much more from the game against Villarreal, but were left with little more consolation than a point.
Gabriel CalderónFollowing the 1-1 draw at El Madrigal, Real Betis manager was disappointed his team hadn’t been able to take more than a point from the encounter, having felt that their efforts deserved much more.
“A point is very little for us. It’s another Sunday in which we’ve had to fight against forces we cannot. This team has demonstrated that it has men worthy of playing for this club. I have to congratulate the players.”
Betis appeared to suffer more unfortunate refereeing decisions against them, for which Calderón lamented that when that happens, it makes the hill they’re trying to climb, into a mountain.
“Things are so clear that it’s saddening. Of the six points we’ve deserved in the last two games, they’ve cost us five. What’s happening to us with the referees, is not what we would expect of this league. All we ask, is that doubtful decisions don’t always favour our opponents. We’re not talking about football now though.”
“In the locker room, the players feel helpless. They’d give their lives to bring joy to our fans, but we’re not getting any. We have to keep going the way we are, hoping that we’ll be permitted to win on the pitch.”
Calderón remains positive about the performance and improvements being made by the players though, despite their unfortunate league position.
“I’m happy because I can see the team improving match by match. The players will always give their utmost, fighting for salvation, even beyond the fact that we remain last in La Liga.”
