Real Betis manager, Gabriel Calderon was elated by his side’s 0-2 win over Rubin Kazan in frigid Russia and is even more excited to give the fans a European Derby as they will face cross-town rivals, Sevilla in the next round.
In his post-match press conference, Calderon spoke about the match and couldn’t be happier for his players, who are finally rewarded for their hard work.
“I’m very happy. I must congratulate my players, it’s a triumph for them. 150%was down to them. This is a well deserved reward. I saw them working hard with excitement and professionalism in the worst of times. We wanted to give the fans some joy to reward them for the patience they’ve had this season. Our fans deserve that we treat every game like a final and that’s what are players are committed to doing. Now we go to Villarreal to try and win.
“The match against Rubin was won because of the attitude of all 11 players. It was a group effort; the defenders, the midfielders and the forwards. We close the gaps, always applied pressure and went to win the game from the first minute. Rubin had no chance.
“The team has been growing over the past three games and this is a confirmation. We were better in the first round and in the first half, we could’ve score a couple more goals and against Athletic, against 9 men, we deserved more than we got.”
Calderon concluded by showing his joy at having a Sevillan Derby in the Europa League.
“I am very happy about the European Derby. It will be an extraordinary party for Sevilla, but in an elimination there are no favourites, it’s 50/50. The team will continue to grow and we’ll go into those games in good form.”
