  • Betis keeper Sara injured in training match

Real Betis have confirmed that goalkeeper Guillermo Sara could be out of action for around two weeks, after suffering a knee injury during a training match on Sunday.

A training match against the Puskas Academy played at the Benito Villamarín on Sunday against the Hungarian side, ended badly for on-loan Argentine keeper Guillermo Sara, who had to retire from the game in some considerable pain with a knee injury.

Sara had to be stretchered from the pitch, but after further tests to diagnose the extent of the injury on Monday, the medical department at Real Betis announced that he suffered a mild sprain to a ligament in his right knee.

Though the nature of the injury isn’t as bad as first feared, he will certainly be unavailable for this Sunday’s trip to Granada in La Liga, whilst is also doubtful to be recovered in time for the first-leg match of the Europa League tie against Rubin Kazan, on 20th February. The hope is that he will be available ahead of the match against Athletic Club Bilbao on Sunday 23rd February.

B team keepers Javi Montoya (22) and Pedro (18) will train with the first-team squad for the rest of the week, with Javi Montoya the most likely to provide backup for Antonio Adan, whilst Guillermo Sara completes his recovery.
